A pavane is a type of court dance that was popular in the 16th and 17th centuries and are in duple time. I thought the fact that they are always in duple time suits the concept of a shadow and their living doll well-- get it? Two-time? Haha I'm so funny. Plus, the setting would make sense, what with a court and all.
It's not about a literal dead princess, but about "a princess from the past," which in this case I thought of Barbara's change from a soft hearted, frail girl, to wanting and trying to be strong and intimidating. When talking about this song, many also consider a "loss of innocence", which while I do have some qualms with (they always make it a sex thing :c ), it also fits with how they lost Anthony. Or you could take the name of the song literal and connect it to Barbara's illness, whatever you think suits it best! Love this song
