Picture this. The tone is a mix of noir and mystery/drama. The aesthetic is loosely inspired from the 1950s but stays a little true to phighting. Detective ban hammer is sent to investigate (and hopefully take down) "true eye", a crime family that's been festering in the ruins of lost temple. Corruption faces him at every turn, and worst of all- whenever he finds a lead, it's ruthlessly taken out of the picture. Wether it be through bribery, blackmail, or the work of a mysterious shadowed hitman taking out targets. (wink wink nudge nudge.)

And so begins the main plot! Detective ban hammer in lost temple subtly crusading against the family and slowly uncovering the depths of the drama surrounding the scorch. His greatest opposition being the mysterious hitman in a crisp red-pinstripe suit, always stealing his leads and hiding the clues. Whenever he gives chase they practically vanish. Although he's gotten close a few times! Just a few..

Eventually Overseer realizes Ban Hammer won't be deterred from investigating, and after he 1: refuses the bribe and 2: evades the assasination attempts, 'Seer decides to divert his focus to the up-and-coming political group in the city.. nicknamed the Wranglers. They've been hellbent on eradicating true eye but they have their own dirty secrets. He hopes those secrets will both sidetrack the detective and force the Wranglers out of power, two birds with one stone.

He sends Scythe to drop a few hints here and there, y'know, just overall making sure the detective stays away from the family's buisness. He slooooowly grants permission for her- using an alias- to work closer together with the detective.. just for taking down the Wranglers of course! Surely his most dedicated member can handle the job, right?

This, of course, backfires. Grins and taps the username of my blog.

I think Mafia Scythe would be very analytical and sharp-witted. Still charming but it's sidelined for logic because of how intense her job is. She knows love is a dangerous game in the mob buisness but she's still just a person, and it's been a long time since she's felt this thrilled or happy about- well- anything. And so she keeps her cards close to her chest and bets on dogs she's hoping won't lose. She's a lover at heart but it presents in a very subtle blink-and-you-miss-it way.

Ban Hammer, in this, is a little more bloodstained and a little less prideful. He's seen a LOT of stuff on the job and understands more about people and nuance as a result. To quote will wood: "It doesn't take a killer to murder, it only takes a reason to kill." Because of this, he has a desire to understand Scythe that canon Ban just. Doesn't.

He's curious/morbidly fascinated by such an intelligent person being so willing to jump into the fray and fight dirty. He's fascinated by her schemes and upset with how he's always a step behind, so he picks up the pace. He learns to match her tempo, and together they end up making a really fun to watch, fun to write, and fun for each other team. Neither compromising on their own morals, each treading with caution, and both finding a weird-but-it-works matching pace. As for crushes...

Ban Hammer, being himself, is also very socially inept! He can solve the most difficult of cases but if you ask him to go to a normal party he will panic and hover Nervously at the buffet eating snacks instead of talking to people. If anyone tries to say hi he will try to appear confident and instead appear absolutely freaking terrifying.

He's trying his best but- he does not know how to function in normal situations after dealing with the worst and most stressful cases Ever. Unless the "normal situation" is part of/for a case, then he can chill and socialize fine. Don't ask him he doesn't understand it either.

^ this, being logically extended to romance, ends up with him being hyper-aware of other's relationships but completely oblivious to anyone crushing on him... or himself crushing on others.

he has a massive fat crush on scythe becayse he sees her as an equal and really cool, and he is ENTIRELY oblivious to this fact and thinks it's just "average arch-rival behavior". It is not, in fact, average arch-rival behavior. Everyone who knows him can so easily tell. Scythe learns to tell over time. She finds it astounding how such a skilled detective is so out of touch with this stuff. She also thinks it's hilarious and lightly teases him about it in a way that drives him up a WALL. Otherwise she gives no hint that she knows unless it impedes the case.

if it's causing problems then she drops a few hints, ban hammer entirely misinterprets them but still re-focuses, and they get back on track.
