I don't know why I post on here, no one ever interacts with me but that's okay I guess. Just a place for me to vent I suppose.
In June I finally started talking to a lawyer about bankruptcy. I'm never been in such a horrible financial situation as I am now. I am extremely overwhelmed. When I first started talking to the lawyer, I felt the slightest bit of hope that things would get better soon. Now after sort of starting the process and after a meeting with the paralegal handling my case, I am more overwhelmed than ever. I still have to come up with SO much information even though I already gave them what they asked for the first time. We weren't totally sure if I would qualify for a chapter 7 or if I'd have to do a chapter 13. Now they are saying I should qualify for Chapter 7 based on income, however, if their findings are accurate, right now I have too much left over between my income and expenses to qualify. (They have it listed as we have about $1000 left over per month after we pay our expenses. We certainly do NOT). Aside from all of that, I still owe the lawyers $1300 before they can actually file the bankruptcy. I already paid $500 and it was a STRUGGLE to come up with even that much. I have no idea where I'm going to come up with $1300. That's more than my rent. The lawyers obviously don't care when I pay that, they just can't do anything else until I do. The problem is, I have a lawsuit against me for an unpaid credit card. I was supposed to go to court last month but the lawyer told me not to go, so I didn't. The problem is, after a certain amount of time, that creditor can and will garnish my paycheck. I don't know how much time between the missed court date and garnishment I have. Because if my paycheck is garnished I'll really be up fucking creek. I can't set up payments with that creditor (at this point I don't even know if they would allow payments) because I'm not supposed to be paying anything like that because of the bankruptcy.
Our finances (on paper) are all screwed up for several reasons. My husband's paystubs get mailed to him but we never really keep them (didn't think we needed to) and what he is able to obtain on the website is not the same as the actual paystub we get in the mail. The lawyer said it's fine. The paralegal said it's not fine, she needs actual paystubs. Everything is absolutely fucked where we were doing grocery delivery. It's a giant mess and I am so overwhelmed and anxious.
