The 2015 Baltimore Uprising: A Teen Epistolary . The book reads like a dark comedy; genuine grief and despair speckled with moments of surreal observation on a city in conflict. For someone who moved to Maryland from Australia some five years after the riots with no knowledge of them, when I picked this up, it was eye opening. The riots were something that just didn’t track on the other side of the world, but reading the collection of tweets in this book, seeing the quick progression from protests to rioting to looting to relief, it’s hard to imagine just how intense things must have been. The waves of news that come across in the chronological presentation of tweets shows the ripples of information that spreads through social media and the power that teens wield through this. I felt that the fact there was no introduction, no commentary, just tweet after tweet after tweet, resulted in each tweet having just that much more potency, ultimately creating a powerful book which chronicles an important moment in time. . #the2015baltimoreuprising #ateenepistolary #baltimoreriots #baltimore #minimonotonebookclub #booksivereadin2021 #booksivedrawnin2021 #booksreillustrated #bookstagram #houlart #houl (at Baltimore, Maryland) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPG3L0-BIEo/?utm_medium=tumblr
