Kiruma Souichi learned the way to love from his mother. So his love is bet him life/sacrifice.

The stl game is all-or-nothing. In 2001, Hal owned Baku's life. The only one who can take Baku's life is Souichi, it means "nobody can kill Baku".

After the handkerchief game, Baku owned Hal's life. Hal is NOT going to be able to bet his life by himself anymore like 1998. Nobody kill him even if Hal himself.

In 1998, Hal bet his life and lost. Even if he didn't mean to but that was sacrifise for Baku. So Baku also felt the same experience and got the same result with Hal. I suppose it was the first and last "defeat" in his life to Baku. So Baku should be win back with Hal to be "undefeated gambler".

And Baku killed Hal to save his life.

Baku wanted to kill Hal but he doesn't hope his death. This complex feeling is very like Baku and Hal.
