The pelesit is a familiar spirit in Malay folklore. Resembling a cricket or grasshopper, sometimes with a human head, the pelesit can only be summoned by a woman. It is usually used to attack other people.
There are two different rituals that can be used to summon a pelesit. Both involve incantations and biting off the tongue of a dead child. The severed tongue will transform into the pelesit, which can then be sent to attack a chosen victim. It will enter the victim's mouth, tail-first, and the victim will then start to madly rave about cats. If used in conjunction with a Polong, it can cause insanity and unconsciousness.
