okay. i just think that Black ppl shouldnโt be expected to โgracefullyโ handle being called racial slurs to accommodate anyone. in a moment meant to be a celebration of their accomplishments at an awards show with a history of racism & exclusion no less. words have effect regardless of intent, it doesnโt magically negate harm. and had michael & delroy reacted differently they would not be given the same understanding.

a lot of the posts iโm seeing on twitter show zero compassion either for mbj and delroy lindo being called a racial slur or for the reality that some symptoms of touretteโs are uncontrollable. both things can exist at the same time.
and yes it may be uncontrollable, but black americans still have the right to feel hurt by a word like that. itโs a strong word with a long, awful history.
also seeing so many accounts (probably burners) trying to fight ableism by being racistโฆ how is that helping this case? and vice versa! some of the things iโve seen said about this condition today is just plain disgusting
i am epileptic and i have, in the past, hit people while having a literal seizure. obviously this is in no way what so ever comparable to deliberately punching someone. even so once i had control over myself i still apologized for hurting them. this isn't because i felt i was somehow malicious and evil for having a disability, it was because i hurt them. the person at the other end doesn't have to magically pretend it doesn't hurt because i am disabled. my brain being miswired doesn't turn off their nerves. the situation sometimes sucks all around.
this is about the baftas and their mealymouthed "sorry you were offended" bs and the intense racist backlash to Black people's upset.
