the world outside feels miles away in the quiet of the campus library,  but that’s exactly why alex nilsen loves coming here after hours.   well,  one of the reasons.   there’s a sense of serenity to it,  much like a harbor late at night after all the ships have already departed.   the only sounds that reach his ears are the faint buzzing of the overhead lights and the steady swishing of the custodian’s dust mop in the distance.   “hey,  @baeuty,  sorry i’m late.   what are you reading tonight?”   he asks in a hushed voice,  setting two styrofoam cups and a paper bag on the desk.   their library now allows students to eat and drink inside,  but it still feels a little illegal to do so out in the open.   “got you a coffee and a blueberry muffin.   snuck them in.”   he lets out a quiet laugh,  taking off his coat and sitting across from the brunette.   he pulls out a paperback copy of heart of darkness,  probably his least favorite read so far,  but there’s an essay due on it and he intends to finish it tonight.   “have you read this one before?”   he inquires,  tapping the cover of his book.
