The thing about waiting in a darkened office that you were technically not supposed to be in was that it was a lot cooler in theory. Of course, the reveal would be totally worth it, but now Alice was just sitting in Hatter’s chair waiting for him to enter so she could dramatically turn around. And she was getting kind of bored, to be totally honest. She drummed her fingers on the arm, knowing that the literal second she pulled her phone out, he would walk in. 

So she just had to wait.

Like a lot of grand plans Alice came up with, this one was definitely not super thought out. She’d wanted to surprise Hatter and then decided to break into his office to do that. Okay, it wasn’t breaking in — she had a key, to be clear. And Mocha was on shift today and if there was anyone Alice could trust not to make a big deal about her being in own, it was Mocha, so Alice just gave her a nod before sauntering into the office and planning her surprise.

And it’d been about twenty minutes and Alice was getting bored and —

The door clicked open. Alice swiveled around, throwing both hands in the air.

“Surprise! It’s me! Your long lost prodigal … whatever return from her grandiose adventures across Europe, with nary a personal epiphany to show for it — tada!”
