Ugh I've been meaning to write about my Katniss/Haymitch feelings for ages because they are perfect to meeeee. It's one of the most organic relationships of the series and...IDK it's just such a safe relationship to have - they're both already so fundamentally fucked up they can't possibly cause any more damage. In Katniss' eyes Peeta still retains some innocence and purity and she's scared of ruining that because god knows, she sparked the revolution that killed her sister and her friends and damaged her relationship with Gale irreparably, but she can't possibly make Haymitch's life worse than it already is. And as for Haymitch, he'd been sending 2 children to their deaths for the last quarter of a century and that's before he meets Katniss and Peeta and actually lets himself care about them again. And the thing with Katniss and Haymitch is that you can't pigeon-hole their relationship with one another because it's so heavily intertwined with their relationships with themselves and the best thing about that is that they both recognise that fact and then jesus christ I'm with the Mockingjay and between the three of us we might be able to bring you home WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THIS TO ME.
