After the FrancoPrussian war 1870-1871 Won by Germany,

Two big microbiology schools continued the war, in the laboratories.

The Paris School, with Louis Pasteur, 1822-1895 whose son fought in the war

The Berlin school, with Robert Koch, 1843-1919 who served as doctor in the war

And the little Belgium School sandwiched between them, with Gustave Gratia, 1855-1932

In 1901 respected German microbiologist, Robert Koch, asserted

‘Dairy milk, to avoid Tuberculosis? No, Nein Pasteurization Das ist ein French idea.’

Belgian Gustave Gratia, who had studied under Pasteur, refused to assimilate this assertion.

From his own applied tuberculosis observations on dairy milk farms,

Gustave Gratia knew that Koch was, dead wrong.

Using Piaget’s Constructive Accommodation, Gustave Gratia publicly challenges Koch in 1903.

‘Herr Professor Koch, You are wrong! Nein. Dairy Milk must be Pasteurized.’’

Belgium follows Gustave Gratia advice, and Pasteurizes dairy milk.

Raw versus Pasteurized Dairy Milk?

Paul deKruif's 1948 communication with friend and colleague André Gratia. Both went against the established microbiology views. DeKruif was the author of 'Microbe Hunters' and Sinclair Lewis's collaborator for the 1925 novel 'Arrowsmith', made into a popular science movie in 1931. Andre Gratia had served as a composite model for 'Arrowsmith.'

DeKruif and Gratia had worked together in the early 1920s at the Rockefeller Institute. After first agreeing with his patron, and supervisor, 1919 Nobel Laureat Jules Bordet, a young Gratia reached his own phage debate conclusions, and with DeKruif coauthored that phages are indeed viruses, not simply chemicals.

FUN FACT: I haven’t played Deltarune yet, but from what I’ve read, it seems like Kris is a very quiet person in most situations, but they are actually very eccentric in many ways, enjoy pulling little pranks sometimes, and are very strong when fighting! Heliobacter pylori infects the stomachs of over half of the population globally. While it can cause serious illness, the vast majority of people are asymptomatic. (Which means you’re almost certainly safe!) I’d argue infections being mostly asymptomatic could be analogous to how Kris is a quiet person, but not devoid of personality — When heliobacter pylori does cause serious illness, it can bring about many kinds of gastric disorders and further complications beyond that. But once again, please don’t stress over this! Even if you do have heliobacter pylori in your stomach, developing serious illness is RARE, and if you do begin to experience symptoms, they are treatable!
