That said, the fourth season does start pretty harshly and it's really setting the tone for both Season 4 and Season 5.

-I rewatched the Episode this morning (as one does instead of sleeping) and I did not see the Cavalry wearing Nazi insignia, but I just might've missed it.

-"Not a fan of the bad guys having scars" Totally understandable!! However if you're referring to the Doctor (the guy with glasses and the facial burn mark at the beginning of the Episode); he isn't a villain at all, but moreover morally ambiguous. It's not really a spoiler but he treats WW1 vets with PTSD, tremors etc. He also helps Rath quite a bit. But the why is a spoiler for S1 and S2 so I won't say more :D (as much as a good guy as Rath I'd say)

As for Günther Wendt (The Police President that dances with Malu Seegers). I personally think the scar tells the viewer a lot about the character, since the scar looks like a Schmiss. A Schmiss is a type of scar which students would often give each other in fencing duels (sometimes they would put horse hair into the wound so it could scar, since a Schmiss was a visible "Mark of Honour"); it shows that Wendt is both an academic and probably from a wealthy family, since he was allowed to study instead of work.

-Rath being held accountable is something I'm hoping to see next Season, until then he is definitely experiencing the consequences of his own actions which isn't the same; but I don't think it is something the writers will shy away from.

As for the your last point; I do think it's important that a popular series like this exists in our current time frame, even if dramatized or exaggerated in some details; because people really need to realize that: No Nazis and Faschists are in fact a real threat and not just a boogeyman that you get told in school about.

Okay but seriously; Babylon Berlin takes Place in the Golden Twenties and follows Crime Inspector Gereon Rath, who transfers from Cologne (idk if that's spelled right but it's Köln) to Berlin, where he meets my beloved queen Charlotte Ritter (she works as stenographer in the police Department and in the evening as Flapper; she wants to become a Investigator.

Gereon suffers A: From PTSD and drug addiction after being in the First World War and B: Severe Brother issues (its a important plot point). He came to Berlin to help his father(who is the Cologne Mayor I believe) hide a scandal and to secretly investigate an extortion case involving an illegal pornography ring.

The series deals with a lot of dark/serious themes like the fight for political power between the different parties (Communists, Nazis, the ruling Social Democrats, Monarchists)

1. for example the Bloody May (extreme police violence against protesting KPD members and workers)

2. The strong divide in wealth and class in 1920s Germany and Berlin in particular

3. Pornography, Prostitution, Murder etc.

4. The stock market crash and following inflation, the SAs violence against Jewish Citizens and the Nazis rise to power

It's based on the novels from Volker Kutscher and mostly follows the books plot points rather closely I'd say.

On a lighter note there are also both a plot relevant drag king and queen :D

Okay this is getting extremely long but here are my some fav characters;

Gereon Rath; Crime Inspector with the wettest fucking cat look you'll ever see. He's played by Volker Bruch

Charlotte Ritter; Stenographer and Flapper. She is so goddamn cool and quite easily my number 1 favourite female character ever. She's played by Liv Lisa Fries.

Drag King Nikoros; who is actually the Former Russian Countess Svetlana Sorokina. Even of you decide against watching the Series, you should definitely listen to Zu Asche, Zu Staub (pleaseplease). Severija Janušauskaitė is the actress here.

Reinhold Gräf (In the middle) Drag Queen and Police Photographer. He's honestly the best character in the series and I love him.
