favourite bird?
Uuuugh difficult! I was always partial to sparrows, they just speak to me on a spiritual level but falcons are so cool... but for this ask I'll go with a finch, because I see them almost every day out my window
Thank you for the ask!
So do we by any chance have here any fans of the 1945 British romantic comedy I Know Where I'm Going!
Or British and Scottish culture enthusiasts who have seen in movie at least?
Hi, this is a polite reminder, that relationships between characters CAN, in fact, be described in more ways than "friends", "family" or "lovers". In fact, it doesn't even have to fall into either of those categories! So what can a relationship be? Let's list a few examples:
brothers in arms
coworkers
boss-underling
caretaker-charge
coparents
mentor-student
neighbours
compatriots (bonus points if they're in exile)
idol-fan
hero-admirer
leader-follower
classmates
members of the same religious community
co-conspirators
enemies (without lovers)
rivals (also without lovers)
teammates
hostages in the same hostage situations
jailmates
hospital roommates
part of a larger friend group
tourists at the same organised trip
etc etc etc
And more generally, let's talk about attitudes:
admiration
loyalty
a shared goal
a shared ideal or belief
a problem both parties are facing
a hardship both are going through
attraction
jealousy
compassion
contempt
care
grudge
respect
understanding
curiosity
measurable benefit
trust
habit
hope
and many more!
What I'm saying is, I know that there are some neat shortcuts to how we call certain relationships but both irl and in media it's very often not that simple!
Do those teammates really see each other as family, or have they learned to trust each other and have grown accustomed to each other's company? Are the members of this agency really friends or do they just respect each other based on their skill? Are these two actually lovers or do they just understand them based on their shared experiences in a way someone who doesn't have them can't?
And even if the characters are friends, lovers, family, etc, why is that? Is their friendship built on being comfortable with one another or on curiosity to how this person's life will go? Do these two care for each other's well being or are they in it for their bodies? Do they get anything out of this relationship and would it continue if this profit stopped?
And sometimes those relationship mix and exist on various levels and bleed into each other - as coworkers I trust your skill but as your brother I'll always be jealous of you - I'll never stop trying to protect you as your subordinate but I've lost all respect to you - we're stuck together and I don't like you but I have hope that we'll find a common language
We're on tumblr, the place where people write whole dissertations on animated characters and psychoanalyse hundred of years old protagonists of ancient epics. Step out of the world of neat labels and start noticing the beautiful colours of each unique relationship, trust me, it's much more fun

Okay, anglophones and non-Poles in general, a question to you:
Imagine you're reading in a museum guide about a guy called Wincenty Pol. There's a fragment talking about how the museum organises events like readouts, author evenings, plays etc, to introduce you to this guy's life and creations. At the end of this paragraph there's a line "that's something we like to call an exPOLation of our patron's vibrant life".
Is the meaning of this line clear to you?
Yes, I get the pun
I didn't realise that's a pun but I get what you mean
The word itself doesn't make sense but I understand this line from context
No that's very confusing change it
Comments and ideas welcome because I've been stuck on this pun for three days :/ In the original there's "POLowanie", polowanie meaning hunt
Look, I get that both Elena and Esteban being colour coded with red is meaningful for their relationship, them being narrative foils etc etc but as someone who relies on colour coding to tell characters apart in my doodles that is VERY ANNOYING
Oh sorry, it was the headcanon/ideas one
Alright, I admit I don't think that much of Blanca of her own and mostly in terms of her being Gabe's mother but let's see what I got
The biggest headcanon I have is obviously her whole family that I invented. Perhaps I should make a new post sometime, since they evolved quite a bit since that post
When thinking of her past I usually imagine that she started working/doing an apprenticeship at the Nuñez and Son bakery to spend more time with Roberto. Actually she might've started working there even before he did
And - controversial opinion - but I don't think she's ever been overly rebellious. It's not that she's a fan of Shuriki but she was doesn't remember the time before her rule and she never really had any personal stakes in her policies. If asked, she'd of course declare that Elena's rule is much better and she changed Avalor for better too, but in her daily life she just never paid it much mind
I definitely see her as a more "here and now" person so for example, as member of the trading guild she'd have much more opinions on Doña Paloma than on Shuriki. Similarly, she's never met a wizard or heard much about magic other than in some fairy tales maybe, so she didn't really have an opinion on the magic ban. She'd have more to say about the specific royal guards she met, the ones that patrolled the city or something, than the military as a whole, etc.
Now as for the stories - similarly, I don't have anything that really focuses on her, but she does play a significant role in the Guapoverse*
*a story of mine taking place a few years from Coronation Day, where Gabe strikes a deal with El Guapo - his military expertise for the co-rule of his body, with the chance of him permanently gaining freedom if they solve Avalor's current crisis. More under the tag
So obviously, Blanca is not delighted that Gabe is now permanently possessed by an ancient ghost. In fact it leads to the biggest fight they had since his early teenage years and probably the most serious one ever. He risks not only his life this time, but his actual immortal spirit and she might be his mother and support him and his happiness always, but she's also his mother and she cares about him and won't stay quiet when he's doing harm to himself
Unfortunately her protest don't change much since by the time she learns about it, the deal is already made
So she does the next best thing that come's to her mind and starts treating Guapo as a person. If her son chose to constantly be accompanied by another man's consciousness then she's not just going to ignore it and pretend that nothing happened. From then on she starts speaking to Guapo, ask about him and even ask about his favourite dish and set a separate plate for him when Gabe visits
This behaviour turn out to be crucial both to Guapo's transformation and his and Gabe's relationship. They can't ignore one another and they can't keep fighting for total domination of the body they're now both inhabiting. They have to work out a compromise and thanks to Blanca they see that perhaps it really is possible
