The band, which is dedicated to the aesthetics of blackened death metal, delivers brutal, direct music that is deliberately directed against religious dogma. Their sound is a sonic masterpiece – heavy, dense and imbued with a darkness that not only accompanies but overwhelms. Baalzagoth draws on the hellish legacy of death metal – echoes of the merciless force of Morbid Angel, the suffocating chaos of Incantation, the ritualistic rigour of Immolation and the extreme intensity of Hate Eternal. Yet this is neither a copy nor a nostalgic homage – the band takes the hardest, darkest and most primal elements of death metal and pushes the brutality to the absolute limit.
