AYYA “Second Mistake”
Earlier this year the Berlin-based experimental label Pan, released a compilation of unreleased ambient tracks from both new and existing PAN artists. The result is “Mono No Aware”, a gorgeous 80-minute mix that hangs together as an album.
Mono no aware (物の哀れ), literally "the pathos of things", and also translated as "an empathy toward things", or "a sensitivity to ephemera", is a Japanese term for the awareness of impermanence or transience of things, and both a transient gentle sadness (or wistfulness) at their passing as well as a longer, deeper gentle sadness about this state being the reality of life (Wikipedia).
“Second Mistake”, the sixth song from the mix, comes from Poland-based experimental artist Ayya, which captures perfectly the compilation’s concept with a contemplative 7-minute ambient gem built around a simple loop repeated throughout the track to create a hypnotic, dreamlike effect.
“Mono No Aware” is out now on PAN.
