The SS Ayrfield
This odd forest is found in Homebush Bay, a body of water found to the west of Sydney, Australia.
The bay itself was heavily utilized for industry during the 20th century, leading to significant pollution and damage to the surrounding environment, including contamination with dioxin.
In the 1970’s, the area was also used to dispose a variety of ships, including the SS Ayrfield, which was used during the second World War to transport troops and later was used for commercial shipping.
After the ship was abandoned…nature began to reclaim it. Today the ship sits, along with several others, in the bay. Some of the pollution has been cleaned up by reclamation projects, but the ships currently remain.
