Happy birthday to Ayeaye.
The Aye Aye. Some cultures see him as an omen of death, so I made him a fisherman of souls. He sets out a line on his single long finger, waiting patiently for a bite, willing souls ready to leave the waters of life and instead become a delicious chowder. He keeps them safe in his fishing vest, next his own breathing lungfish.
One of my favorite touches from this time around is the bandaid brad I got to attach his arm :3

So...
My cat, Jiji, does this thing where she takes her middle claw, which is just a bit longer than the rest, and uses it to snatch food from me.
I call it her Aye Aye claw.
Whats that? An Aye Aye is a lemur that has an extra long middle claw to shove into holes to fish out insects larva and poke holes in eggs to eat.
Jiji uses her long middle claw to steal my food... see where I'm going with this?
I finally got it on photo and video.
This. Freakin'. Cat.
Get to know the aye-aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis). This rarely seen species of lemur has an extraordinarily long middle finger, which it taps against trees to listen for hollow wood. The animal scrapes the bark with its large front teeth. Then, like a party-goer spearing a treat with a toothpick, it pokes its middle finger into the hole and collects a snack of wood-boring grubs. There are currently more than 100 species of lemur. Unfortunately, 98% of lemur species are threatened with extinction, and 31% are critically endangered. 🖊 Illustration: Image no. b12045160_5, AMNH Library, "Adult male aye-aye from Owen's Monograph on the aye-aye" #spookyseason #ayeaye #lemur #naturalhistory #vintageinspired #amnh #museumlife #halloween2021 (at American Museum of Natural History) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVpCJ2prCbP/?utm_medium=tumblr
