ok maybe half of my opinions are based off of the fact that i love it when my favorite characters suck. example: my fave in star wars is anakin
though, just to clarify... me saying qifrey's backstory doesn't justify his actions is NOT me undermining his trauma
the situation he's been placed in is horrifying. he's been through something insanely traumatic (and the remnants of it follow him in his daily life twenty years later! the silverwood seed was pushed inside him when he was a child!) (yes i know what the phrasing implies no i won't change it. it's the point), something that forever changed him and the way he interacts with the world. he's been hurt, and he wanted to die before going through it again
and now, thanks to his promise to olruggio, he has to do that very same thing to his best friend. he has to violate his autonomy over and over again, exactly like what was done to him when he was a child. and it gets worse: he's stopped asking first, he's done it to other people. directly, this is him hurting olruggio to keep himself alive. in reality, this is him continuously, deliberately torturing himself
