I actually think sanitizing older stories with dated elements- such as sexism, racism, homophobia- removes it from the fascinating cultural context and deprives the reader of a better understanding of the past. imagine if kid olruggio had started to doubt the pointed cap ideology after noz, because so many people could've been saved if only he'd been allowed to heal them, and was slowly loosening up to the idea that maybe the brimhats have a point... and then he met qifrey, a boy that hates the brimhats so much, a boy that has been hurt irreparably by them and is the clearest example of their cruelty, and oru immediately went, "...maybe not"
