Life hasn't been as much fun since my last pet ran away... I'm so glad to have met you! I've been waiting for someone like you to come along for almost a year now. No strong interpersonal ties... visiting the area... much too trusting...
"Tea?" I set one of the teacups down in front of you on the coffee table. I take a sip from my own as I sit, making sure that you see me do so. You didn't see me make the tea, though, so it really shouldn't reassure you that mine is fine. After all, yours is drugged.
Still, ignorant and naive as you are, you thank me and drink the tea. A slow smile spreads across my face. I have you now. Don't you know better than to accept drinks from strangers?

You don't? Just visiting the area? Well, this cafe is not the place to go for good coffee, Darling. Let me show you some local hospitality! I know I can at least guarantee better coffee than this run down shop...
My name is Avery. Or is it J? Maybe Emerson? Alex? Oh, you know what— names hardly even matter anyway.
I go by many names. One of them might be real. They could all be facades. I am 27 years old and use they/them pronouns. (What is a gender?)
My door is always open to anyone seeking a place to rest for a while. So kick off your shoes. I'll brew us some tea. Nevermind if it tastes a little strange. It's a unique blend. Just give it a try. I promise everyone loves it.
Jay seemed to like when Sorrel pushed into their touch, so that was what he did. He let his eyes flutter shut as he showed himself seeking their comfort.
"Thank you for tending to my injury," he murmured. His instincts wanted him to purr again, and so he did. A quieter rumble than before, but still there, still soothing like a cat's.
His tail began to thump quietly against the floor.
Was he leaning into the 'cute pet' angle as a form of self-defence? Yes, yes he was. Did he feel any shame over it? No.
It kept Jay happy and him safer. That's what mattered.
"Good boy..." He was leaning in again. His eyes were closed this time. It was perfect... blood smeared lightly on his delicate face and through his snow white hair... the soft purr rumbling up from his chest as he leaned in for affection despite the way Avery had just cut him open...
Silently— slowly so as not to alert Sorrel to what was going on— they picked back up the small knife, humming a quiet song to cover any accidental noise. Once it was in their hand, they moved quickly, plunging the blade almost completely into Sorrel's thigh.
