ava appreciation week favorite friendship - ava/fatou

I just have to thank last season's writers for making Fatou show her love and affection to her friend in such a beautiful way

My biggest wish is an Ava season, I would be very happy to see the dynamics of this beautiful friendship, but I don't trust these writers

fatou couldn’t fully show up for ava and didn’t see how she might be struggling, failing to realise at that moment that although ava is such a strong and capable person, she can also be lost, confused, angry and hurting. and that even if she is usually outspoken, she too has many fears and insecurities holding her back from talking about what she’s dealing with, from telling fatou about her parents separating. it’s can be so difficult to talk about family issues even with your closest friends, and we could see that ava only opened up to nora once fatou and ava were already in a fight, when nora asked her why ava wasn’t in the flat - which, to me, shows how difficult this was for ava to open up about. fatou was dealing with so much at that moment too - school and the pressure of getting her grades up when she was struggling so much with attention and numbers, pressure from her parents, the possibility of having to repeat a year or being unable to do her abi, issues at work. it’s not an excuse for standing ava up or not asking about how she was doing, ava still had every right to be upset, to feel under-appreciated and forgotten, and to take time away for herself, but it’s a valid and compassionate explanation. ava herself wrongly assumed that kieu my was the only thing on fatou’s mind, not considering the fact that there’s something else going on, that fatou is struggling with so many other things, which understandably was hurtful for fatou and made her feel even more low and misunderstood, and like she was just annoyance to her friends. but again - ava had no way to know any better, because fatou was also completely failing to open up to her at the time, too ashamed, too overwhelmed, not knowing how to put things into words. they are both dealing with so much and struggling to open up.

and i love how in the friendship proposal clip, ava was celebrated, reassured, appreciated and given the space to talk about how she was feeling, the way she deserved for so so long. and how fatou, too, was reassured that ava is there for her too still, that she cares & wants to know how she is doing. how apologies were given and there was so much understanding and love. how they both acknowledged what they can do to grow together and be better friends to each other - listen and ask questions, speak up about what’s bothering them, reassure each other. and how in the clip and chats that followed, you can see fatou sensing ava’s stress, seeing what she’s going through and supporting her, and ava being there for and comforting fatou who was heartbroken over kieu my at that time.
