The Mountain Goats- The Autopsy Garland
It's been a while since I posted any Mountain Goats, so here's another one of my favorites.
It's about Judy Garland, the actress who played Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz (hence the mention of the Emerald City), who died after a stellar career, but a personal life troubled with drugs and debt. Many of these drugs were forced on her by the "fat, rich men," or the film executives the song mentions, whom wanted her to look even prettier.
The song imagines the scene at London, where her Autopsy was carried out, through the minds of the coroners I assume,
Although really, you can read multiple layers into this, so it's really about whatever you want it to be about.
I really like it. Lovely and haunting, but that's enough from me.
