1. Main Beach

Main Beach is your quintessential Byron Bay experience and a great place for your Beach Tent. It's where all the action happens, a long stretch of beach from The Wreck all the way up to The Pass - stretching for kilometres. The turquoise water, Julian Rocks, the Lighthouse and of course the stunning sunsets over Mount Warning will take your breath away.

Not to mention it has the iconic, postcard perfect Byron Lighthouse, which has an amazing walk path from bottom to top.  Legendary for decades, The Beach Hotel is the perfect way to end the beach day – pack up your beach tent and spend a few hours with some live music, cold beer and plenty to see.

Main Beach is a great spot to set up your Beach Shelter for the day and watch the passing procession of locals, day visitors and backpackers pass you by.

2. Clarkes Beach

Around the bay to the east – heading towards the lighthouse is Clarkes Beach.

It’s only a 10-minute walk to Byron Bay town from Clarkes Beach and another friendly place to swim with your kids, and less people (probably more locals) than Main Beach.  A few protected spots for Snorkelling and the launching beach for Cape Byron Kayaks.

Well protected in a Southerly wind it is a mecca for Beach Tents of all types Beach Umbrellas, Beach Tent Pop Ups and of course plenty of Byron Bay Beach Shades.

3. The Pass

At the end of the bay further east from Clarkes Beach is The Pass.  Fisherman Lookout is a great spot to climb the set of stairs and relax at the top of the viewing platform watching the surfers and keeping an eye out for Byron Bays famous Whales.

The Pass is a famous surf break attracting beginners and experienced alike – depending on the conditions. A long cruisy wave that at times breaks from The Lookout all the way through to Clarkes Beach.

4. Wategos & Little Wategos

For most people it is love at first site when it comes to Wategos Beach, which is often voted one of the best beaches in Australia and at times the world.

Crystal clear water, rocks dotted along the sand, gentle rolling waves perfect for the longboarders doing their thing, and it’s sheltered and safe for the kiddies.

Plenty of long boarders at Wategos often a long gentle breaking wave.  If you don’t ride a longboard at least dive in the water and then make use of the free BBQ’s or the cafe on site and enjoy paradise.  If you are settling in for the day there is plenty of space for your crew under your Beach Tent at either the Westerly end of Tucked under the Lighthouse on the East end.

A little further round over the path from Wategos is Little Wategos. Go here if you’re looking for a lovely, sheltered spot for snorkelling, sunbathing or swimming.  A great spot to launch your Byron Bay Lighthouse walk.

5. Tallows Beach

One of Byron’s Best “out of town” beaches – well not that far out of town.

Tallows Beach is a long stretch of Beach between the Light House Head Land all the way down to Broken Head.

A locals favourite for often seclude, quiet and open beach spots perfect for those quieter days under your Beach Tent or for your long Beach walks.

Corner which is tucked just below Cape Byron is a magical spot basically under the Lighthouse and perfect to stay out of any Northerly winds.
