The bell had rung to signal the end of school. Tony headed down the hall, sidestepped a gaggle of girls trying to get his attention, and did his best to ignore everyone else. Okay, so maybe in freshman year he'd encouraged them a bit too much. Now they never left him alone. 

As he neared his locker, he caught sight of Pepper Potts across the hallway. For a moment he stared, until she turned her head and he pulled his locker open almost violently, hiding behind the door and shoving his books inside. His crush on her had been developing for months now. And he was Tony goddamn Stark, but he still didn't dare talk to her. 

Why would she want a guy like him?

He slung his bag over his shoulder, slamming his locker shut in frustration, and started walking, glaring at the floor. Of course, that was the moment that he walked straight into someone. He stumbled, tripped, and fell, slamming his elbow hard into the floor. Groaning, he rolled over onto his back, ignoring the sniggers he could hear around him, and looked up at the person he'd walked into. 

                 ( so, maybe she had arrived before tony                    did. at his own place even. still, it would                    given her a chance to catch up with pepper.                    perhaps even allowing herself to open up                    to the other. )
