In this case it was a good-sized cricket, that was about to meet its demise. Amazing eyesight, pinpoint accuracy, and deadly talons make the task almost effortless.

What seems like a simple, tender kiss between two burrowing owls is even more vital. It’s the exchange of a freshly-caught, delicious cricket. Nourishment! Breakfast prepared and served! Not only did he track it down and capture it, but he saved it for her. He could just as quickly swallowed it himself. Instead, he flew it back to the den and stood outside the entrance cooing a soft, sweet serenade, enticing her to come out to see what he had brought for her. Moments like these occur millions of times a day but we, so rarely, have the time to stop and watch, let alone understand.
