Got Mom to watch The Pitt with me since she's kind of captive audience today being down with a cold and we don't have the girls. Got through 3 episodes before she needed to nap.
So far: (her thoughts/commentary below the cut, just in case spoilers)
Got excited to see Noah Wyle - that was literally the first thing she said "Omg is that Noah Wyle??? Ok, then I trust it".
She feels bad for Whitaker and his rough morning so far.
She was bit confused with Mel at first, but likes her.
She doesn't care for Santos so far, says she's a bit of a bully.
Not at all surprised about how cocky the surgeons are (Garcia).
We both lamented about how nice their sanitizer dispensers are, the system we work/ed for could never - let alone have them be full or the touch less kind.
She likes Mohan.
Laughed when Dana called Langdon a dick, and said he's like a lot of the ER docs she worked with - kind of forgetting that patients are people.
Got teary when Robby read Abbot's letter.
When McKay was talking to Javadi about her parents and it being like a family business, gave me a pointed look and asked if that's how it was for me as a student (almost exactly tbh, just without the whole prodigy thing. People's expectations were through the roof and also very critical at the same time. It's a weird space to be in. At least my parents weren't like big name docs in the hospital like her's, mine were just other rad techs, though dad was a big name in the dept due to being in the education part of it for so long).
She laughed about the scrub dispenser.
Said she didn't even notice that there was no background music other than when Robby is first walking in that first episode - got too absorbed in what was going on and said background music would have been too overstimulating plus it's so much more realistic without any.
Also said the COVID flashback was good - even down to the haze from the face shield - though even in that brief scene, said it seemed like they had way more PPE than we really had available, though this is about the ED and not the rest of the hospital, so of course they'd get top priority. Had let out a quiet "they even have them prone" during that scene, and when I looked over she had a white knuckle grip on the armrest (she worked in the hospital during covid as an US tech, so she saw a lot of it that I didn't working outpatient. I had signed up to be redeployed as needed, but never got called so I was lucky to even get a shift or two every 3 wks - only at my sites that had an urgent care, and we were only doing urgent or stat studies. We'd be lucky to have 5 pts all day. Meanwhile Mom was scanning for dvts and other clots pretty much nonstop all shift with very little nurse help for donning and doffing PPE to enter pt rooms cause everyone was so afraid and trying to limit time in pt rooms as much as possible to limit exposure and PPE usage. So she was doing extra to try to help out while in the room for the more awake pts)
Said nurses like Dana were always her favorite
Her biggest gripes so far - that the vet pt in the viewing room was still intubated. And that they didn't show Robby getting sanitizer after that first attempt trying to use the bathroom when Langdon called him and he just suddenly had gloves on when they got to the patient, though admitted that was being really nitpicky. She even laughed and said there's no way I could go that long without sprinting for the bathroom with as much fluid intake as I have at work (makes me really appreciate my job and being able to run to pee while waiting for a patient to change)

Omg I think I found something even better than mom's commentary on the Pitt (which we finished last night, sorry not much from her the last 5 episodes other than "oh, they're just showing the whole birth...that is exactly what that looks like")
But my partner at work and her husband just started watching today. She's sending me snaps of their thoughts while they watch and I'm dying. For reference, she's MRI tech with an X-ray bg - used to work in Flint/Detroit in trauma 1s and her husband is a trauma nurse/fireman who also worked in Detroit and Lansing.
So far:
- but the doctors don't do rounds, that's the nurses (then grumbling again about the difference in charting habits between the hospitals they used to work at in Detroit vs the system we all work for on the west side of the state)
-"why are they worried about Press Ganey's during a multitrauma? Wtf that makes no sense" girl it's management, when have they ever made sense
-the degloved leg- "that'd be a Ortho consult and c-arm x-rays, [she then lost me with some x-ray terms, like girl, I'm not versed in those like you] orif[?] and they'd be more worried about infection than that"
She didn't say a whole lot during these ones (we were also eating dinner though)
Laughing about the ambulance and the betting
Said people like Dana are born to be charge nurses and do it well
Groaned about the one guy from the waiting room that's an ass
We both cried through the old guy dying and his children talking to him. Worst part was the agonizing breaths. Hit a little too close to home during those scenes thinking about dad. But, she said it was so sweet how they handled it.
We found some background music! - the high pitched whine when Robby's panicking and then when he was checking vitals on the old guy to make sure he'd passed
Did laugh a a bunch at Whitaker's misfortune and needing more scrubs. Again. "Got peed on (don't know if he ever got to change after that) before getting.....ewwwww blood right to the mouth, poor kid"
Had to explain to her what Javadi meant when taking to that patient about the misgendering. Mom hadn't caught the dead name in the waiting room part.
Said Mohan is the kind of doctor you want, one that actually listens (I think Mohan is her favorite)
"Poor Whitaker, more blood to the face again. Robby did tell him it could go south quick. That kid needs a face shield for all day. You think they're doing incident reports for the blood to his face? You'd think they'd be more worried about that...."
"Sweetcheeks? Why, cause the poor kid is just standing there in a gown and his underwear? Ope, there's Dana with a save......Myrna's handcuffed??"
Loved the little old lady and her caregiver daughter. We both said we love those types of older patients. The sweet ones. We also definitely commiserated with Mel and the daughter about caregiver fatigue. Been there.
Finished my Bellara romance run and holy shit. For all that they cut so much from Lucanis' romance.....Bel's is almost non-existent. The end romance scene is cute, but that's really the only time it even seems like a romance. There's literally like nothing. And only Harding makes one comment about you and Bel? When everyone else gets at least two others asking about your LI or it gets brought up a bit at least in banter. You'd think Neve would make a comment too, but nope. Just one line from Harding. It was so disappointing.

Accidentally put a tube of chapstick through the wash with my scrubs about a week ago. Ruined a couple pairs of scrub pants, a couple shirts and some running shorts.
So got some new scrubs to replace them and eh. I am a Carhartt girl through and through. I love the cargo scrubs (one of the ones I ruined were favorite Carhartt scrub pants). This time I got some of the jogger ones they have. I love the one pair, they're more a canvas kind material? The other ones I've got on today though? Not really a fan. I don't like the material, it doesn't breathe well, it makes the swishy noises I don't like when I walk, and ofc it's on a day I'm already struggling with regulating my body temp and overheating too fast (temp control in my area is a factor for sure, these trailers are not insulated very well and the airbags don't seal great so the thermostat is always getting adjusted and feels more like a suggestion at best)
Weird little quirk for me, but I've noticed that whenever I wear jogger type scrub pants, I tend to overheat more. Usually within the first 3 hours of my shift I'll have given up and rolled the cuffs up my leg and then I'm fine. But something about it being so tight around my ankles throws me off so bad. Make it make sense
Needed to play something else, so started Mass Effect again. Kept dying at one point in ME2, so switched to Andromeda (so sue me I actually enjoy it)
Was talking to Greer after the Habitat 7 mission and why does he sound so familiar? Looked, and yup, same voice actor as Davrin in Veilguard. Makes me wish we had more time with that initial Pathfinder team, or got more interaction with them
