Kelsang was a companion of Kuruk, then became Kyoshi's "guardian"; Disha was one of Kyoshi's last companions, then became Roku's airbending teacher; Gyatso was Roku's best friend, then became Aang's airbending teacher; and Tenzin—Aang's son—became Korra's airbending mentor.
My point is, could there be something linking Korra and Jae?

Pema is a character who serves no real purpose. Her only roles are bearing Tenzin's children, looking after them, and offering him advice. Her entire character revolves around that. And all we know about her is that she would like a non-bender child. But we don't know what she like as a person, or what she like doing. She is hollow. And no, saying that isn't misogynistic—because that is simply how she is written.
obviously, they couldn't just retread every character growth point from ATLA, but TLOK left me feeling quite underwhelmed. I wish Mako and Bolin had more of an arc, I wish Korrasami was better developed or at least foreshadowed, I wish each season didn't have a formulaic bad guy. the recap episode in season 4 was a crime (compared to ATLA's play on Ember Island), avatar Wan's story was boring and underdone.
at the same time, the show had every right to exist and I'm sorry it didn't become a proper series covering multiple avatars. Avatar could be Doctor Who, but I guess at the moment even Doctor Who can't be Doctor Who.
I'd love to see an earlier avatar's story. I also crave an avatar brought up by the Red Lotus to create an anarchist world, but a girl can dream.
anyway, I grew to love the characters and I liked Kuvira.
