All the Bright Places is a contemporary young adult novel that follows Violet Markey and Theodore Finch, two high school students struggling with grief, trauma, and mental health. When they meet on the ledge of their school’s bell tower, their connection grows as they embark on a project to explore the hidden corners of their state, learning about life, hope, and each other along the way.
The novel’s strength is its emotional honesty. Finch and Violet are complex, relatable characters whose fears, insecurities, and growth are depicted with care. Their relationship feels real, marked by both joy and challenges.
The pacing balances introspection with adventure and moments of lightness, giving the story a mix of hope and poignancy. The book tackles heavy topics like loss, depression, and self-discovery thoughtfully, without being melodramatic.
Overall, All the Bright Places is a heartfelt, moving story about connection, healing, and the small moments that make life meaningful. It’s ideal for readers who appreciate emotional, character-driven YA fiction.

hey author!!! Just conoleted my exams and now i am waiting for you...how r u?? How life is going on?? Rest well and eat well sis...also waiting for atbp intermission is killing me with anticipation...pls give us a little bit of update pls
i'm good! i'm busy wrapping up the semester so i haven't had much time to write! since it's taking me so long to finish, i'll post another small teaser under the cut! :)
"Have you thought of names yet?" Eunae asked.
You fell silent at her question as you were still hesitant about the names you had in mind for the twins. Both of your favorite names were ones you chose with Hoseok and neither of you thought of a name past your two favorites.
"What about Taewon and Taehan for boy names?" You suggested.
Hoseok scrunched up his face and shook his head. "No, Taehyungie is going to think that we wanted our kid to have matching names with him and we will never hear the end of it. Jungkook and Jimin are also going to complain that it's not fair that the baby doesn't have a name that matches theirs.
You nodded your head in agreement, realizing that was a very likely scenario. "You're right. I don't want to hear any whining or boasting from any of them."
The two of you shared a laugh, unable to believe that you had to be mindful of three of your friends when naming your future kids. As much as you loved the maknaes, you had a feeling they wouldn't be too happy if the names of your children were similar to the names of the members.
"I like Aerum for a girl and Daeyoung for a boy." Hoseok offered. "But you want matching names, right?"
"Yeah, I would prefer them to have matching names but we can add them to our list anyways. It gives us more options when we do have to choose a name."
You weren't entirely sure why you and Hoseok were choosing baby names even though there wasn't a baby anywhere in the near future but the topic came up after Hoseok learned about the name of his makeup artist's new baby. You had a long list of baby names you picked out a few years before while Hoseok never considered any names so he decided to indulge in you and create a list; it was much more entertaining than he thought it would be.
"Oh, how about Jaehee for a girl? It's so cute." You gushed.
A smile spread across his face as he said the name for himself. "Jaehee? I like it. Jung Jaehee has a nice ring to it."
You smiled as well, giddy at the mere thought of your kids having Hoseok's last name. Although it was common for women to keep their maiden name after marriage, you planned on hyphenating your last name with Hoseok's.
"I came across Jaeyoung for a boy name a few minutes ago. Don't Jaehee and Jaeyoung go well together?" Hoseok turned his phone around to show you the name.
"Jung Jaehee and Jung Jaeyoung." You hummed. "I love it."
"I can't wait until we can settle down and start a family." Hoseok sighed. He nuzzled his face into the crook of your neck, picturing what his future with you would look like once his career slowed down. He knew nothing would be set in stone until after he enlisted in the military unless you were okay with getting married before then. Nevertheless, he was sure you were going to be the woman he married.
"Me too." You kissed the top of his head. "I'm counting the days."
You blinked away the tears that formed in your eyes and cleared your throat. "I was thinking of the names Jaehee and Jaeyoung. They were the names I chose with my ex-boyfriend before we broke up."
Eunae's face fell at your remark but she quickly smiled. "Those are beautiful names and they fit the twins perfectly."
You looked down at the twins, saying their names out loud. "Y/L/N Jaehee and Y/L/N Jaeyoung; they have a nice ring to it."
Jaehee's features were eerily similar to Hoseok's. Funny enough, she looked like Jiwoo since she was the female version of her younger brother. Your heart ached and your mind was troubled at how Jaehee was Hoseok's twin but you were glad that one of them had his beautiful features.
Knowing you had to raise the twins alone and that they might never meet their father was extremely bittersweet. Being a single mother was something you never anticipated nor did you expect Hoseok to react so harshly to your pregnancy. Even though he was not in your life anymore, you were more than capable of taking care of the twins on your own.
The only thing you wished was to see his face again so you could slap him across the face.
I started All the Bright Places today and I am currently on the chapters after The Day Of and the feeling of impending doom is incredible and the only thing I can think about is the lyrics of Getaway Car.
Think about the place where you first met me. One of us had to jump.
Hi, first time asking, I was wondering how long is the intermission means to you? Of in others words, what the usual average time frame like week or months since it’s says (the fall) cuz I see the fall in September to November. It’s just been on my mind. Love your stories and writing style, too. Oh another question, how long did it take you to get into this writing skill level? Like what’s your old style? Was it like cringe or super vague? Best wishes and good day and night. ❤️
hi! the intermission takes place over 3-4 years since it starts from oc and hobi's breakup (2018) and ends right before oc runs into jungkook at the park (2022). i'm only covering the major events that happened during this time so there will be multiple time jumps throughout the chapter.
the chapter doesn't actually begin in the season 'fall' but refers to the fall (or essentially the collaspe) of oc's life. her breakup with hobi is what kickstarts the most difficult part of her life and it falls apart because of all of the people she loses during this time.
i've been writing fics since 2016? 2017 when i was in middle school! my writing has improved over time but i feel like it's been stagnant since i started college. my old style was very cringey and i think i will always criticize my writing skills no matter how much i improve. when i was republishing atbp, i was cringing at what i wrote and a majority of it was written in 2023/2024.
