Marcus Moutman is an interesting character, whom we only saw as Wooly before Amanda in Adventurer 3. Essentially, we only know about his personality and problems through the cartoon character, and his human form and real name are revealed only in the final chapter, in one of the tapes recording an interview with him.
Considering all available information about him, I couldn't help but wonder: what was Marcus's past like that led him to become the way he is? What was his childhood like? What were his parents like? What is his past like? This is a very ground open for new seedlings (headcanons), I suppose. I have two theories about the root causes of his behavior in the trilogy: spoiledness and a stolen childhood.
Spoiledness.
In his childhood, his parents allowed him a lot, but didn't demand anything from him. Marcus's parents doted on him in the worst sense of the word, failing to teach him about responsibilities, not just rights, which would have contributed to the child's ingrained state in adulthood. However, if they had, Marcus would have been not obliging, but arrogant and demanding, even capricious; expecting everything to be handed to him on a silver platter with a gold rim, as his parents did, and if refused, he would likely throw tantrums rather than endure to the bitter end, which makes this theory untenable. So, let's move on to other option.
Stolen Childhood
In childhood, Marcus's parents taught him: "Do as others say, and you'll live well" and "You must control your emotions; your tears and anger are useless." Any disobedience, display of emotion (especially tears and anger), or expressing one's opinion in an "unnecessary situation" were punished. On top of that, his parents didn't let Marcus enjoy the joys of childhood from the start, forcing him to work even when he didn't want to... But for every act of obedience, he was rewarded with a good attitude, and this became Marcus's stance: "Adjust, and everything will be fine, you'll get what you want."
This, by the way, explains his anger issues in Part 3 and his general self-absorption in his friendship with "Amanda." He suppressed his emotions for a long time, not allowing them to come out, and now, when everything is falling apart more and more, the dam begins to break, and Marcus resorts to manipulation, or rather, relies on it even more intensely.
About the self-absorption in his friendship with Amanda... Or selfishness. It's common in children, very common. He's spent his entire life "serving" people, giving his all, and now this opportunity has presented itself where he can not only be a child, but also have one. He's Amanda's only true friend, and no one else. He cares about himself and his status in the cartoon world, while projecting a deceptive innocence and purity.
Well, in the end, I'm more inclined to believe that Marcus himself never really had a childhood, haha. And that makes more sense and is consistent with the behavior we've observed in the three games.
