The Astromusical Record series #3

In 1969 GWP Records from New York City launched a special series for people interested in popular astrology as a kind of science. The world renowned astrologer Carrol Righter wrote 12 long articles on each sign of the zodiac and published them inside lavishly packaged gatefold albums with fashionable models in specially made outfits for signs like aries, libra, scorpio and gemini. The dresses and suits were designed by Oscar De La Renta, the coiffures by Paul Mitchell for Henri Bendel, the photography was done by Francesco Scavullo and the package design was made by art director Bob Cato. Each album had two different pictures, one on the inside of the gatefold. The 11-page booklet by Carroll Righter was pasted on the right half of the inner gatefold.

Another fine day another good day for making a mix or two. There was never a day where the robot couldn’t decide on something to remix or create from scratch. Any day that turned into that would be an awful one for him and thankfully, that wasn’t now.

As he was contently jamming and bobbing to his usual remixing he didn’t notice a presence suddenly appearing behind him. His focus was far too into the turning and flicking of switches and buttons while his foot tapped to the seamless beat of his created and new tune. Music booming out from each speaker near and around him as his fingers danced from mix station to mix station and from there to the laptop and launch pads. Each with finesse and absolute timing.

Its not like Napstaton hadn’t been on a stage before in his life, far from it in fact. He was usually always on a stage doing shows everyday, but.. He had never been on a stage so pink before. It was actually quite jarring to his eyes. Even on his own stage he tried to avoid using too much blue and kept it more as an accent colour, but here, no.. The whole place was smeared in a pink catastrophe almost like some poor pink citizen got brutally mutilated upon this very stage.

A low exhale escaped his nose as his electric blue optics shifted to look at the stage that was about to be lit up. To be honest.. He couldn’t even remember why he agreed to this again. All he remembers is that his manager kept irritating him because some wannabe big shot had been hassling her over and over to get him on their show as a guest star.

What a chore.

“Psh.. ‘Guest star’.” 

He was no guest in anything. He was always the star. Who did this nerd think they were up against? Some little DJ off the coast of Philadelphia? As if.  Just the thought of such a foolish thing had soured his mood, but then he thought about how he could show them that he was better and how.. Wait.. He was going to be on TV. 

Oh YES! 

That was the best opportunity for his sound to be heard all around the world! How could he have forgotten such a thing? Damn.. THAT was why he agreed to it!

With that in mind, he almost didn’t hear the very.. Well.. Not faint, in fact, it was quite loud and obnoxious. Almost even louder than he could get sometimes. Just who the hell was this? And.. Why did it sound a little familiar? Turning, he came face to face with his ‘competition’; Mettaton.
