in just a few days, the moon opposes the sun to form a full micromoon in the sign of capricorn, which is ruled by saturn. the micromoon asks us to focus deeply and saturn encourages us to reevaluate our priorities. you could say that saturn's rings form the wall that keeps the cool and watery pool of lunar energy contained.
this full moon will focus on and illuminate:
outdated expectations
false authorities
thoughts on aging and getting older
small wins, successes, and progress
areas of responsibility
one's personal definition of success
the delicate line between resilience and isolation
"family values" and legacy
the importance of patience and avoiding haste
long-term commitments versus short-term gratification
fears that are stunting growth
personal and situational limitations
suppressed emotions
grief over lost opportunities
life lessons to be endured for one's greater purpose
consider spells for:
blessing or consecrating one's home
initiations
endurance
building foundations
stability
achieving goals in general
honoring ancestors
personal integrity
justice and accountability
professional success and recognition for a job well done
attaining leadership positions
confidence and strength through discipline
financial security and paying debts
protection and warding
creating boundaries and shields
banishing unhealthy habits
the mastery and competence of a craft or skill
personal correspondences for this lunation:
colors: dark blue, indigo, inky black, silver
crystals: onyx, blue sapphire, moonstone, obsidian, pearl, selenite
Last year, I wrote a couple blog posts on how to get started experimenting with astrological magic. The tradition is old and deep and complicated, but your initial forays into it don't have to be (and, frankly, shouldn't).
All my astrological images and talismans and rituals started with something like these:
Deer antler pre consecrated and suffumigated multiple times as a talisman of Jupiter, blessed with holy water and Psalms. The symbols were painted with blue nail polish last Thursday when the planet was conjunct Venus near the Ascendant. Later on the same day at Jupiter's hour it was properly consecrated with four blue candles, frankincense, palo santo, brown sugar and Haus of Ophidious' 4th Pentacle of Jupiter Oil. Jupiter and its intelligence were petitioned with lenghty prayers from the Picatrix.
I also want to experiment with using it as a wand for directing spirits and mixing substances.
Magic squares (also known as kameas) are mathematical grids in which the numbers in every horizontal, vertical, and diagonal row add up to the exact same constant value. In planetary rituals, they function as geometric representations of divine cosmic order and are used to capture, channel, and direct the specific spiritual energies of the seven classical planets.
The Mathematical Structure
Each planet is assigned a square based on its specific Qabalistic number, which dictates the size and numerical sum of the grid:
Saturn: A 3x3 grid (summing to 15 per row, totaling 45)
Jupiter: A 4x4 grid (summing to 34 per row, totaling 136)
Mars: A 5x5 grid (summing to 65 per row, totaling 325)
The Sun: A 6x6 grid (summing to 111 per row, totaling 666)
Venus: A 7x7 grid (summing to 175 per row, totaling 1225)
Mercury: An 8x8 grid (summing to 260 per row, totaling 2080)
The Moon: A 9x9 grid (summing to 369 per row, totaling 3321)
Deriving Sigils and Spirit Names
One of the main ritual uses of a kamea is the construction of magical seals, or sigils, representing planetary spirits, intelligences, or even the names of specific human targets.
To create a sigil, a practitioner translates the letters of a specific name into their numerical values, often using Hebrew gematria or the Aiq Beker cipher method. If a letter yields a number too high to fit on the grid (such as 30 or 300), the zeros are dropped so that the number reduces to a usable digit (like 3). The magician then draws a continuous line on the magic square, connecting the numbers in the exact order they appear in the name. The resulting geometric shape becomes a powerful, synthetic seal that serves as the "true name" or energetic essence of that spirit or individual.
Empowering Talismans
Once the planetary square and its corresponding sigils are formulated, they are utilized to physically ground celestial energy into talismans. According to historical texts like those of Cornelius Agrippa, these squares are engraved onto specific planetary metals during highly auspicious astrological times. For example:
An empowered Jupiter square engraved on a silver plate brings financial gain, favor, and peace.
A Mars square engraved on an iron plate or a sword makes the bearer victorious in battle and terrible to their enemies.
A Venus square engraved on silver promotes love, heals melancholy, and dissolves enchantments.
Fortunate vs. Unfortunate Rituals
Magic squares can be utilized for both beneficial and baneful rituals depending on the astrological timing of their creation. If a square is constructed when its ruling planet is astrologically "unfortunate," it channels destructive and restrictive forces instead of positive ones. An unfortunate Mars square engraved on red brass casts people down from power and causes discord, while an unfortunate Moon square engraved on lead brings misfortune to whatever place it is buried, forcing inhabitants to flee.

I was working on this post back about a month ago and then some shit happened and I had to put it on the back burner for a bit. In lieu of running out of projects to work on, I picked this back up and finally finished it. Hopefully it's accurate, sometimes I feel like I go to one source and it says one thing, and another will say something entirely different.
One thing I've learned from exploring astrology is that things can be very subjective, and some people care about some aspects more than others. I've decided to lay things out as much as possible, but if it disputes what you've read some place else, please feel free to let me know! I'm always interested in hearing others perspectives.
Note that this post is about modern Western astrology, not historic, cultural astrology practices.

These signs indicate an aspect of self that is not as easily expressed, and often remains internalized. Having a natal retrograde can change your experiences when living through a current transit.

JUPITER: Happens about every 14 months and lasts for four months. Feeling like you’re unlucky or have to work harder than others. Independence and a strong sense of inner guidance. Feeling out of place with your beliefs, being misunderstood or ignored when you share your philosophy. Not being allowed to take up space. Pessimism. Struggles with risk-taking, seeing others perspectives, and faith. Self-teaching is easier. Follows their own code of ethics.

Struggles with setting and honoring boundaries. Struggles with self-motivation and direction. Commitment issues. Rebelliousness and authority issues.
URANUS: Happens once a year for about five months. Feeling like you have to keep yourself hidden, especially the parts of yourself that are shameful or unique. Following the rules, conforming to expectations or the “norm.” Swinging between a very rigid and a very loose sense of self and self-expression. Structure becomes important, mostly out of fear or anxiety.
NEPTUNE: Happens once a year for about five months. Favoring logic and science rather than intuition and emotions. Struggles with expressing creativity and externalizing dreams. Struggling with existing in reality. Ignoring intuition or signs. Conditional, strings attached relationships, and surface level bonds. Having a hard time empathizing with or understanding others perspectives.
PLUTO: Happens once a year for about five months. Staying in imbalanced relationships or roles, not wanting to express boundaries as they’re violated. Distrusting others to have authority or control, trouble with authority figures. Strong inner beliefs and convictions, but not expressing them. Preferring to process trauma and grief alone. Struggling with being vulnerable. Keeping your struggles secret. Building up resentment and then exploding.

HOUSE CONSTRUCTION METHODS:
PORPHYRY: The Medium Coeli and Ascendant are calculated first, with the Imum Coeli and Descendant being 180 degrees across from them. The remaining houses are divided equally between these two lines. This means each house may be different sizes.
WHOLE SIGNS: The first house is always your Ascendant sign, and each sign that follows your ascendant will be your second, third, etc. Every house is the same size (30 degrees).
PLACIDUS: A much more complex system, the Placidus houses are decided by measurements calculated with your location and time of birth. Your Ascendant will always be the cusp of your first house, and, moving clockwise, the next cusp will be marked after two hours. This continues until the seventh house, where the remaining six houses will be extended as needed to make up the remaining space. The further from the equator you live, the more uneven your houses. Sign interceptions and doubles are only possible with this system.
As a beginner, I have been recommended to use the Whole Signs method, since it’s a lot easier to interpret. Placidus is wholly the most popular method nowadays, though.
SIGN INTERCEPTIONS: Only occurs in the Placidus system. When a sign has no house cusps present in it. Always occurs in opposing pairs. Aspects of yourself that are blocked or underdeveloped.
SIGN DUPLICATES: Only occurs in the Placidus system. When a sign has two or more house cusps present in it. Always occurs in opposing pairs. Aspects of yourself that are enhanced or reinforced.
If you have an interception you will always have a duplicate, and vice versa.

“The Only Astrology Book You’ll Ever Need,” by Joanna Martine Woolfolk– honestly I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s very surface level, gendered, and ignores some very important aspects of astrology and I was still left feeling pretty confused after reading it.
Free Astrology Course by Shaina Astrology– the one issue with these videos is that they seem a bit biased or subjective-passed-off-as-objective, but they were helpful to get the basics down!
