I almost forgot to ask this but- the assessments! Two questions- first, Thornclaw being the sparring partner for Tornface's test- I know generally family is discouraged from outright mentoring, but does that not apply for being assessment partners? And second- I was actually kind of surprised Aspencloud had a regular warriors assessment- I thought it'd be a little different, like how Cinderpelt didn't seem to have an official Seer assessment beyond Yellowfang declaring her ready.
For Tornface: Thornclaw was chosen because of his skill as a fighter (hence -claw) and his ability to counter how his sister has learned to battle with her new disability. He would provide the best challenge to Brightpaw while still being fair. If anyone else was a -claw, they would've been the one to spar, but they only have him for now.
For Aspencloud: Most matriarch apprentices get the escort assessment specifically due to it being the hardest and least comfortable for them. On average, they never leave camp, so having to navigate their territory AND keep an eye on someone bigger than a kit is a good challenge.
WRT the different rank, in the most technical sense, a matriarch is a specialized warrior. They learn to fight and hunt like everyone else, they just guard the nursery and study family trees. They're not actually classified as a warrior, but they grow their skills very similarly, so an average warrior assessment works just as well for them as it does anyone else.
