i've heard this mentioned a couple times but i've actually never seen/read that interview where he says it before, i need to go find it..... BUUTTTTT once again here comes mr roh jae won showing us that he knows namgyu better than anyone else because i think that this is SO fitting for namgyu's character!
i definitely think that it's pretty accurate for namgyu to have felt entitled to thanos- to his friendship, to his attention, to his drugs, whatever it may be. as we saw in s3, he clearly held some resentment over the fact that he gave thanos so much previously (talking about all those free drinks he gave him at the club) and that thanos barely gave him anything back, couldn't even remember his name ..... i think based on their interactions outside of the game, namgyu DID definitely feel entitled to thanos' attention and was expecting for him to be more friendly or whatever with him when they re-met in the games!
and honestly i feel like this isn't really limited to thanos. it's my headcanon that outside of the games, namgyu never had many close relationships, he had friends and acquaintances but none of them were real friends, good friends. i imagine that most of his relationships with people, both in club pentagon and out of it, were very transactional: him using people to get something he wants, and people using him to get something they want. because of that, i just think that that is how namgyu has grown to view relationships, as transactions.
and so, when he did so much for thanos, giving him free drinks and drugs at pentagon and perhaps even giving him other kinds of special treatment too, i can definitely see all of that accumulating in namgyu believing that he IS entitled to thanos, after everything he's done, he deserves thanos, his attention, his priority.
which is why he gets so angry when thanos gives his attention to other people. why he's so insanely jealous of semi and minsu- in his eyes, they aren't entitled to thanos. what have they done to desrve thanos' attention? nothing, they've done nothing, meanwhile namgyu has done everything, and thanos can't even remember his name. he feels as though other people are taking away the thing that he is entitled to, and so he acts out with anger and jealousy.
honestly, i think that "entitled" is such a good way to put namgyu's view of thanos and their relationship. i really do think that that is the case, namgyu feels like he is owed thanos and his attention for everything he did for him, because all namgyu ever built his relationships on in the past have been transactions just like this. roh jae won..... you've done it again 🫶🫶🫶
