Hi there! I'm cosplay as Rosalina from the Super Mario series, and I've made the dress already, but I want to add details like the shimmering stars on the bottom portion of her dress in Smash. What are some ways to do that?
I did mine with glow-in-the-dark paint, and it glows! But I did it as a bit of a rush job and regret the quality. If I were to do it again I would try to airbrush the paint on or, since glow paint is kind of thick, screenprint it. If you just wanted a shimmer, then I would recommend going with a clear paint or maybe something opalescent.
If you don’t like the idea of paint, you could try doing an applique. This is where you sew a cut shape of fabric to your garment.
Depending on the look you want to achieve you can try beading, bejeweling, adding sequins, having lights underneath or heat transfer vinyl. I think these will be less accurate to the art, but can make your costume stand out.
If you don’t want to paint/applique/etc directly on the dress, you could have a sheer overskirt that you add the designs onto.
Hope this helps,— Duckie | Admin | Support the Blog (Ko-Fi) | Etsy
