Halloween can be extremely stressful for your pets, especially for dogs! Lots of unfamiliar kids, all dressed in bizarre costumes and making weird noises coming to your door….which is also your dog’s door!
Here are my 5 tips for dog safety on Halloween Night:
Trick or Treating with the kids? Leave your dog at home! Although she may normally love an after dark walk, this night will present many unfamiliar sights and sounds which will raise anxiety levels in even the most well adjusted dogs.
Greeting Trick or Treaters from your home? Secure your dog far from the main door in a quiet room or behind a gate. Assign a familiar friend or family member to chill out with your dog as far away from those scary goblins as possible!
Meet the Trick or Treaters at the door so they don’t have to ring the doorbell or knock.
When your own goblins return with lots of treats, secure all that candy in a dog safe space.
Review options for online veterinarian services in advance, just in case…remember that chocolate and other Halloween candy can be toxic…dogs can smell chocolate from a mile away!
