why and how did you start doing your year-end reviews?
For the memorable momentsā¦
You know these shows or videos we had on TV or YouTube back then that recall the best of moments of the year? That was my inspiration, ācoz I saw a video back in 2013 of the top ten events that happened in the world that year.
So I thought⦠why donāt I make my own version about my most memorable moments of the year. I deliberately didnāt say ābestā moments because some events in our life may not be the best yet are still memorable. In 2013, I lost my grandmother, and I wanted that to earn the top spot on my list.
I continued this the following year, then again on the following year, until it has evolved to what it is today. Other than the fact that I enjoyed recalling the stuff I did for the year, it was also a good exercise to reflect on the things that happened in my life.
From 2013 to 2015, I based the ranking solely on feelings. When 2016 came, I listed down 17 memories as contenders for the listāstill the record holder for most number of memoriesāand I couldnāt decide which ones to put through, so I made a scoring system with a criteria. I followed this system until now, but there are times that I do switch the places of some memories just because my feelings tell me to.
On 2015, I started doing the same for the books that Iāve read. The inspiration for this was the chain posts on Facebook where it requires you to list down your ten favorite books then tag three more people to do the same. I thought, since Iām a bookworm, that list would have to change as I read more books, so I just decided to do a Top 10 every year.
Same with the memories, I thought it would be nice to reflect on the books that Iāve read that year, and to give honor to them in my blog, especially if some of them made a significant impact on my life.
For this, I averaged my personal rating with the booksā Goodreads rating to arrive with a ranking, because there are times that I really couldnāt pick which book is better than the other.
