May 2022 Day 1: TBR This Month
Once Upon An Eid
Four Aunties And A Wedding by Jesse Q Sutano
Tiger Honor by Yoon Ha Lee
Dragon Pearl by Yoon Ha Lee
On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong
Shadow Life by Hiromi Goto
For the month of May, I am doing the Asian Readathon! Most of this stack are the books I picked for the challenges (plus a sequel). I decided that even after I finish this stack, I’ll stick with Asian authors for the rest of the month.
I think out of this stack, I’m most excited about Once Upon An Eid.
Asian Readathon Book List
Since I decided to read my backlog of novels (and reread The Poppy War, for fic reasons), I might as well join May 2020′s Asian Readathon hosted by @readwithcindy! Here is my condensed list and attempt at the challenges.
Challenges:
Read any book by an Asian author. [Filled by: any of these novels]
Read a book featuring an Asian character or written by an Asian author who you can relate to. [Filled by: The Poppy War]
Read a book featuring an Asian character or written by an Asian author who is different from you. [Filled by Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World]
Read a book recommended by an Asian. [Filled by: To Rule in a Turbulent World]
Reading List:
Faraway Wanderers
Nan Chan
To Rule in a Turbulent World
Liu Yao: Revitalization of Fu Yao Sect
The Poppy War (reread)
Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World
✨ Asian Readathon ✨
Are you going to participate in the Asian Readathon next month?
I always see this readathon on social media but I've never participated. Because of the whole quarentine situation, I thought it would be fun to join in this year. The principle of it is that you follow the prompts and only read books by Asian authors for the month.
I'm hoping May is the month that I finally read some of Haruki Murakami's works. There's also a Readalong and Watchalong for Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. I haven't read this before but it's been on my TBR for a long time. I'm super excited to finally get to it! 🥰
I'm not sure what my TBR is just yet, but when I've finally decided on some books I'll post it!
Look, the little robot wants to read too 😂 Kim Ji-young, Born 1982 is a support women #asianreadathon bonus. Female writer, Asian, Korean to be specific, lesbian translator. It depicts the struggles of everyday women, who grapple with the pressures of motherhood, the lost of self, torn between career ambition and societal expectation of mothers being primary caregiver, the under appreciation of their sacrifices, the isolation and loneliness that accompanies it. Also, this is a make up free shot, no edits to my face. https://www.instagram.com/p/CAW1AnLHMHz/?igshid=1hv6ks6ocsgdg

Taking pictures with new phone! This camera is so much better. My lighting still sucks but I'm very excited.
May 31st, 2020 || MAY READING WRAP-UP📚 . Here are all the books I read in May. The majority of my reads were written by Asian authors due to the Asian readathon. I have post mini-reviews here for some of them and also on my instagram if you fancy having a look. Some of the books I read were ebooks and since my e-reader died on me and I'm too lazy to charge it, they are not pictured. . 🌿The Complete Chi's Sweet Home, Part 1 by Konami Kanata (8/10). 🌿All Among the Barley by Melissa Harrison (8/10). 🌿The Beast Player by Nahoko Uehashi (6.5/10). 🌿The Map of Salt & Stars by Zeyn Joukhadar (DNF). 🌿The Magical Language of Others by E.J. Koh (8.5/10). 🌿Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer (7/10). 🌿Emma by Jane Austen (a reread - 8/10). 🌿Minor Feelings: An Asian American Reckoning by Cathy Park Hong (9/10). 🌿On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong (5.5/10). 🌿A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry (9.5/10). 🌿How Much of These Hills Is Gold by C.Pam Zhang (7/10). . Of the ebooks, I have purchased a physical copy for All Among the Barley, The Magical Language of Others and Minor Feelings after reading them because they were that good.
