I didn't touch it, put on gloves & a mask, carefully put the bottom back on and wiped down the work surface a bunch of times with rags and threw out the rags and gloves and then twist-tied the pedal in a bag. I think it should be fine in there for now, I didn't see any shed fibres.
The pedal itself is pretty rusty anyways, and the wire is damaged, so I suppose I'll just buy another one. The motor itself seems alright though.
This is from a Singer 99k that I got for $20 CAD at a garage sale a few months ago and haven't posted about yet. It'd been sitting on my table for weeks but I've finally got the machine itself decently clean and reassembled.
Besides the pedal business, the wooden case is falling apart and it'll need glueing and refinishing.

The Food and Drug Administration is poised to kill a proposed rule that would require testing for toxic asbestos in talc-based cosmetics, a problem that has been linked to cancer.
“Nothing could make America less healthy than having a cancer causing product in cosmetics,” said Scott Faber, vice-president of government affairs with the Environmental Working Group non-profit, which has lobbied for stricter regulations around talc. “It’s hard to understand why we would revoke a rule that simply requires companies to test for asbestos.”
