"Neb Crabulas the Almighty" It’s funny, now that I’ve been painting for almost 20 years inevitably some pieces you’ve made fall through the memory cracks. I can’t remember who owns this piece now or even really remember painting it. I do know that I was in a full fledged painting spree since I was finishing up my degree and trying to save money for a move to work in China. Since I currently don’t have a car it’s a little easier to talk yourself out of certain errands if you’ve got a lot to do each day. I finally carved out the time to resupply some art stuff. Snagged some varnish, and these two colors which are I’ve found to be integral to my pet portraits, I’d been running low for a while now. For those that might find it interesting, here’s my newest pet portrait in Black & White. I clearly prefer the rainbow 🌈 colors in the portraits I do. When I do the portraits I never use, white, black, brown, or grey. I started doing Pet Portraits when I painted my favorite cat “Chief” who belonged to my roommates at the time, Devin & Sarah, as a color study more than anything else. It was inspired by palette knife paintings I’d seen of rainy streets at night that were all color. It was kind of a geewiz sorta of realization that, “oh, people might like having portraits of their pets that aren’t just a bunch or cartoonish surrealistic wildness!”, of course I’ll never stop with my fantastical surrealistic cartoonish wildness, but I’ve truly learned a lot and bonded with many people doing these pet portraits. As I near 100 pet portraits I can’t tell you how thankful I am for the support and helping me inch closer towards doing what I feel like I’m here to do for a living.
