With great gratitude, respect, and humbleness, I say thank you to art critic, Mr. John Crowther for his critique of my painting, “Here’s Your Paranoia”. This painting is on exhibition at @brassworksannex in Portland and currently available. 🔷 Mr. Crowther’s review: “Painterly representations of organic forms are among the medium's most varied. One could plausibly argue that no other form of expression exists, but I can't entirely agree with this assertion because language breaks down when synthetic subjects are considered analogous to organic ones. While I recognize the subjective nature of my premise, I will remain faithful to it. Once a certain level of abstraction is reached, the painting's subject becomes so open to interpretation that its emotional resonance defines its narrative more than literal visual analysis. W.S. Cranmore’s Here’s Your Paranoia’s wonderfully unique and engaging forms do not explicatively declare themselves as natural or artificial. However, their earthy palette, unembellished beauty, and complex simplicity are markedly evocative of nature. Despite the absence of clear aesthetic indicators, I cannot see the painting as anything other than an expression of pure organic beauty. Happy Monday all. This painting is “Aspects Of William”, it will make its gallery debut this July at Brassworks Annex in Portland OR. Here’s what art critic John Crowther on the website Altamira.art had to say about the piece- “Told in thickly applied, loosely geometric passages of acrylic, W.S. Cranmore’s Aspects Of William is a window that obscures as much as it reveals. I love the generosity of Cranmore’s description. He does not claim ownership of the name but invites every viewer to see it through the lens of their own experience. Whether we want to or not, people will always project some of themselves into a work of art. We all see differently, think differently, and carry different emotional baggage, and it would be unreasonable to expect people not to bring some of themselves into their considerations. Sometimes (speaking for myself, at least), when vocalizing our opinion to others, we consciously try to repress some of the more personal feelings and memories a work can inspire so as not to reveal too much about ourselves. Cranmore creates a sympathetic space for our internal and external emotional communication because he positions himself as a fellow traveler and not a guide. Cranmore's inner conflict about self-expression mirrors the considerations of intimacy the viewer experiences.
