secondly, thank you for this delightful scene. Keith knows deep down- that this isn't what he's meant for. like maybe there's an alternate universe where he's helping save the universe instead of actively dooming it. and when Lance joins his orbit- it's like that universe starts getting closer and closer in his periphery- and he feels like, for once, whatever he had been fighting for or working for before didn't have a reason. it was just the life he was made for- but now, he had someone to really fight for- this idiot who was flirty and silly despite all of this adversity, despite being taken captive - makes him feel like there's finally a reason for why he feels like he should be anywhere else- and that anywhere else is with a prince who makes him see the universe a little differently. a universe he wants to care for, because someone else cares right next to him.

we're starting of ROGUE. this is a really random one, unless you're of a certain age group and from the uk, it is highly likely you have never heard of the peak that is rizzle kicks. let me work my magic and make this about klance:

ok to start with - this is a really upbeat summer-y song, so i could go down the route and say this song is from lance's perspective (as you would and maybe should if there's a song you can shake your ass to) - but NO - this is from keith's perspective

the idea that he struggles with finding joy in his life- it's always ripped away from him, but after becoming a paladin and befriending lance - he's addicted to the way it makes him feel to actually be happy

it's a weird feeling for him, maybe slightly foreign, but it's pulling him in, lance's joy is infectious and keith is actually about to become terminal

now this...ok. yes. i can work with this one...

now, imagine for me, if you will - post canon klance. and i know i bring up post canon every three minutes, but can you blame me? its the perfect environment for both being evil AND being nice.

keith was genuinely happy for lance when he got with allura, he was happy for the both of them- finding someone in a war, it's a comfort to know that they feel the same things they do. Keith would be cruel if he were ever to think that Lance didn't deserve that, not after everything. but now allura's gone, and part of lance is too.

and the worst part is- Keith misses her too. he misses her so much, but he feels so guilty about it. she was their true leader, not him. he always knew it, at heart, she kept the team together in ways he didn't know how. and now that she was gone, there was a disjointed feeling between them all, but especially between him and lance

and even though Keith loves Lance, he'll never tell him. Keith still works with the blade, and sometimes, it's dangerous. he cannot look lance in the eyes, and tell him he loves him, not knowing if he'll come back in one piece from a mission. wouldn't it just kill him if he had to mourn the both of them?

and when it happens, that last mission, he sees his life pan out in front of him as he bleeds out on solid cold metal. in that moment, he knows he should have told lance he loved him. regret fills his lungs alongside his own blood, and he tastes iron on his tongue with a side of bitter remorse.

this song is so them. its that sad yearning between two people who are clearly in love with each other, and they havent even noticed yet- its like theres some otherworldly force pulling them together. and they only realise in that vital moment, one of them is about to die, but they know, they would throw themselves in front of danger, they would die, just to save each other. being a paladin means they know theyre ready to sacrifice themselves at any moment, but this feels different somehow. theyre not just doing it because its their job, they have to save the day, theyre doing it because what would their world be without the other person there? keith knows he could suvrive without lance, but he also knows that lance is the person who manages to be the brain and the heart at the same time. lance cares about so much, about so many people around him, its hard for keith to understand how he lets himself open his heart to everyone. but even so, when it matters, hes the person who talks some fucking sense into keith- he can get past his arrogance and hot-headed determination. lance knows that keith is the person who drives him to be better- and sure, it started as them being rivals, but it turned into something else. like keith always knows what choices hes going to make, and lance, as indecisive as he is, admires that, even if he gets tunnel vision sometimes. theyre opposites, but in the best way, the way where you fit together nice and neatly.

i think the lyrics of this song are much more suited to keith than lance, case in point:

but the feeling of this song? the pure vibes? yeah, thats klance. you dont even have to be that insane to believe this song is about them.
