“You know I can’t feel that way,” Írissë snapped. She clenched her fists, trying to hide how much she was shaking—with anger, betrayal, fear.

She’d thought he understood her. She’d thought he was different. Had she been wrong?

(Would anyone ever understand?)

Tyelkormo’s eyes were wide with dismay. “I don’t—I didn’t mean it like that!” he protested.

Írissë bared her teeth. “How did you mean it, then?”

“I—” Tyelkormo huffed. “You know. We fit together. We’re partners in the Hunt—you get me—you don’t ask for more than I can give...”

“But you can ask for more than I can give?” she spat. “Valar, Turco, I can’t believe I thought—”

She spun around and slammed her fist on a nearby tree. She couldn’t let him see her cry, not like this. Not ever.

“I don’t—Rissi!” Tyelkormo approached her, stopping before he got too close. Good—he hadn’t lost all sense of respect for her. Yet.

“I don’t mean it in a romantic way,” he said haltingly, and perhaps it was that hesitancy—so uncharacteristic of him—that finally made Írissë still, and listen.

“Please,” he said. “I—you know I want you, that’s not ever been a secret between us. But I love you, too. Not just as a bedmate, or as a cousin—as a friend. A partner. And I don’t mean like a—a husband.” Even without turning, she could just tell he was pulling a face at the idea, the way she did when she thought about being called anyone’s wife. “But—something else. You’re special, Riss. I just...want you to know that.”

Something softened in Írissë’s frozen heart. She turned around again, and was astonished to see that he was crying.

“You don’t have to feel the same about me,” Tyelkormo said. “Or—or even put up with me anymore. I’m sorry it all came out wrong...”

Írissë didn’t know what she’d do with all that, if she could find a place in her heart the way he wanted her to, even if it wasn’t the same way she’d first feared. But she knew one thing: there was no way she was leaving him, not when she loved and cared about him, too.

So she threw her arms around him in a crushing hug, and let him squeeze her tight. It was always amazing to feel his strong embrace, and the desperation of the way he held her now was even better, warming her all the way to her fëa.

but for real--

Aredhel: she’s bi and VERY aro. “to none was her heart’s love given” ?? that’s CANON, babey!!! i ship her with celegorm, but only like, extremely casually in a FWB situation where they are FRIENDS first and foremost, and i think she and eol probably started off at least with something genuine, no matter how bad it got toward the end. BUT i think she had very similar relationships with some of the women in her life, too, mostly because she’s badass and i think it would be cool if she was badass and kissing ladies. she and galadriel mightve fucked around a bit too, idk, they were definitely close in my hc! and after she’s reembodied i hope she gets herself a WIFE who she goes ADVENTURING with and they’re not like, in love, because she’s aro, but they are Best Friends and are happier together than they were before <3

Galadriel: also bi! i really like her with celeborn, actually, i think he’s a very good balance to her .... intense personality, but i am also here for most galadriel/lady ships (like meladriel or galadriel/luthien or galadriel/aredhel like i mentioned above). i don’t have...a ton? of headcanons around her? like don’t get me wrong, she’s an icon and i love her, but not someone i’ve put a Lot of thought into.

also, i can’t find the post, but i really like the intersex!Galadriel headcanon, too! i think the post where i first came across it talked about her being called ‘nerwen’ (man-maiden) by her mother, and that could be a reason to read her as intersex. and trans, too! like, amab intersex galadriel whose parents were like “uhhh, i guess we have a fourth son??” and then as soon as she was old enough to express it she’s like Fuck You I’m A Lady And I’m Gonna Be The Best And Coolest Lady Around!

Luthien: one more time with feeling: she’s bi! again, not a character i’ve really put A Lot of thought into? but like, no one this cool and powerful and badass can be straight, cmon. she has weird taste in men tho. no shade to beren, of course he’d fall in love with her, but i love that she’s like “hm, yes, THIS man, this mortal covered in dirt and blood who falls in love with me at first sight and would die for me, this is the one i will choose.” that’s iconic, honestly, and tbh she DESERVES a himbo husband who worships the ground she walks on! but also she’s into girls, and every luthien/lady ship (galadriel, thuringwethil, etc) is GOOD AND VALID
