I had a fantastic time at the Pokemon Fossil Museum! One of my favorite things about Pokemon is learning about the inspirations from reality that directly inspired the artists’ designs, so this was right up my alley of favorite things!
The exhibit is laid out so real world animal facts and exhibits are displayed in red, and the Pokemon world information and exhibits are displayed in blue. This was both an amazingly helpful organization method (we love color coding in this house) and a cute tribute to the first Pokemon games Red and Blue (but it was Red and Green in the Japanese release which the exhibit also taught me).
My favorite display was the aurorus which I’ll post about separately. The most informative one to me was anorith and armaldo. I feel like anorith is one of the most forgotten about pokemon, and I never liked armaldo because I thought it was just a hodgepodge of features and strangely wet bug-like. I learned at this exhibit that it is in fact a shrimp. So it is a hodgepodge of features and a wet bug, but it’s on purpose, and I appreciate it more now knowing where it came from.
Because the anorith’s eyes are opaque pupils encased in clear orbs they appear to follow you as you move around the display case, so play with that a little if you’re also visiting the exhibit!
They were limiting access to the giftshop to people who bought tickets to the exhibit and received a voucher. There was also a limit of 5 items and 1 Excavator Pikachu plush per voucher. They didn’t have a whole lot of merch, but they were sold out of a lot of the clothes in my size by the time I got there so maybe there had been more but it sold out before I arrived.
I did get my Excavatorchu, and I did explore some of the rest of the Field Museum as well as the aquarium next door. Pro tip, the main museum is HUGE, so if you visit try to spare a few days to explore the rest!

150.4 lbs - Around the weight of a Deer.

Info:
Armaldo's armor is so strong that all attacks bounce right off.
The claws that Armaldo wield can freely extend and contract, and they have the power to punch through steel slabs, though they are more often used to simply skewer prey.
Armaldo went extinct in prehistoric times before being brough back.
After Armaldo evolved, they took to living on land, as their hind legs now allowed them to walk, but they still hunted underwater and remained great swimmers.
It has been determined that Armaldo are the ancestors of certain bug Pokemon.
