I sincerely do not understand those fanfictions that are like "noooo Spock don't do Kolinahr don't kill your feelings" Pals, Kolinahr doesn't kill feelings... what makes you think it's something bad? Firstly, feelings and emotions are different. Secondly, it is not a permanent state. Thirdly, it is achieved by meditation and solitude. That is it, the seeker of logic goes into the desert in order to be alone with themselves for some time, to face all their dark sides, fears and anxieties that prevent them from coping with control, read philosophical books and shove all the stuff in their head shelves (i don't know if it includes some psychological work, but i would bet it does. And it is usually done under the guidance of more experienced in this matter, like Gol monks). As a result, they strengthen their control over impulsive emotional outbursts and understand themselves and others much better. The best example is Tuvok from Voyager. He does not hesitate to show feelings, he just does it consciously, and not under the power of impulse. Vulcans don't suppress their feelings. They just tend to keep their heads cool and control their impulses, not letting the impulses control them. (at least I guess not usually. Spock's (and probably Sarek's) case are different cases. someone clearly misunderstood the Arie'mnu concept.)
