I spotted this Aeshna Juncea while going out for a walk a while ago. I’ve spent lots of time trying to find out which species this dragonfly belongs to. We actually have several species here in the arctic, but they’re all very similiar so it takes time for a hobby entomologist like myself to come to a conclusion as to which species a particular specimen belongs to. This is what i believe to be a female, since there’s hints of brown on the main body segment. It can take up to three years from when the egg is laid, until a fully grown dragonfly takes to the air as an adult.
