Dark Path Elements Part 2
For your villain and lore making needs, some headcanons about dark path magicians for each Flight (part 1 here)
Ice- Soul Poachers- soul calling is a unique skill developed during the days when the Shade terrorized all. It is a way to call back spirits to their bodies after they had been cleansed from the Shade. When the need for such abilities began to fade, some of these callers turned to becoming soul poachers. With crystalline bells they call souls away and preserve their bodies for amusement or profit. The bells seal the souls within them, their crystalline form a prison to hold them for all of eternity.
Wind- Echo Sirens- siren blood is not uncommon amongst Wind dragons; it is the ability to charm and enchant an audience into unyielding devotion. Yet Windsinger gifted this blessing with a restriction upon it- those who abuse it shall lose the ability to create. So, they become Echo Sirens, destined to only repeat what others have sung or said. Yet this ability can still lure others to their side and drive them mad. Their music becomes the screams of battle, the whispered devotions of a lover, the howls of beasts, and the giggle of a hatchling. Impossible to withstand, but impossible to yield, a promise and a betrayal. Few survive such an encounter with their minds intact.
Lightning- Storm Pirates- highly intelligent and egocentric these dragons seek to overthrow the status quo of the Shifting Expanse for the sake of greed and glory. From Lightning Farms they steal the equipment to generate power for their air ships and the ability to move storms. Riding the winds and leylines they push storms off track into cities and towns. After the destruction they swoop in during the disarray to loot both data and treasure. Many pirates dream of one day conquering The Source and ruling over all of Lightning.
Arcane- Null Flux- this power was originally found in dragons who had experienced a great trauma involving their magic. A Null would inadvertently shield both inwards and outwards, causing magic to essentially unravel at their touch. In this dissolution of magic, power is generated which essentially explodes and damages both DNA and magicules. A Null Flux is a mage who has figured to channel this dissolution power at the cost of any other power and learning. They can no longer feel the embrace of magic and seek to destroy what they cannot have.
Light- Sun Glutton- an inhabitant of the Hewn City, this parasitic entity eats the light, the color, and the very truth of any object or being. Objects become grey and shattered, losing purpose and meaning. Dragons lose the ability to be seen or understood as a dragon, a ghost amongst the living. These dragons eventually begin to hunger for what they have lost and become Sun Gluttons to try and feel the light once again.
