Okay, fuck it, Finn-centric “From Pit Fighter to Chem-Baron” storyline added to the time-skip fic (possibly feat. messy hookup with Silco, but I am still debating). I grew attached and am giving up to resist the pull of making him a central figure of the years between canon. If he can genuine mobilize a serious coup attempt against Silco, Finn must be a formidable player in Zaun’s power league, even when Sevika prevents success by murder. He deserves attention and spotlight, I decided.
I am not too attached to the Silco/Finn hookup. I see potential for drama enrichment and lots of character shenanigans and, Idk, Finn gives "I am irresistible"-slut vibes.... But that beat might also be too crack-ish and hurt the overall story more than the shenanigans earn. That might be a darling worth killing, or rather aborting, since that beat does not fully exist yet. I am open to input, though, if anyone wants to toss me their two cents.
… I spent far too much time the past couple of days to give Finn an extensive background story that makes him genuinely sympathetic and even more of an asshole because he knows what it’s like to be vulnerable and horribly exploited.
It started with “Finn is bisexual” and “Finn is a former pit fighter who eventually replaced the chem baron who sponsored, borderline owned him the same way he intended to replace Silco: by staging a coup.”
Now we’re here with some in-depth worldbuilding on pit fight culture (very) loosely inspired by gladiators. Rome had bread and circuses; Silco gives the people shimmer and pit fights.

Okay, let's be silly for a moment because I'm stoned and giddy.
Remember that I mentioned there is one AU somewhere where Haze does not terminate the pregnancy when Finn knocks her up, and Sevika co-parents a little girl with colorful braids with Haze? ( I found a name for the kid, btw: Pip).
I just noticed that means in this AU Sevika is entangled in some custody tensions with Finn (because Haze was fine with hooking up with a chem-baron, she is not fine having him claim her kid) when he approaches her to stage a coup against Silco. Every interaction between them is so much funnier when you picture these two engaged in custody fights. Finn sitting across from Sevika, pitching a conspiracy to overthrow the most dangerous man in Zaun, and Sevika is looking at him thinking not is this a credible threat to Silco but what is this man trying to take from me now.

Sevika's interactions with Finn in S1 are so much funnier when you know much of her contempt is braided to the background that he knocked up her girlfriend before Haze and Sevika committed. Sevika's still a little pissed years later.

😨— Haze's biggest fear is...
... Motherhood. Which seems reasonable since her own mother Ballad couldn't even handle a gentle "mom" from Haze's lips without collapsing and lashing out. After all, carries Ballad's struggle in her name.
I've already shared that Haze has at least one abortion, and that is actually a little subplot in my during-the-time-skip fic Master of Puppets. That little arc puts Haze in a highly vulnerable place (because I decided that it's chem-baron Finn who knocks Haze up; it was entirely consensual, and Haze even enjoyed their short affair) and I think that is an important aspect for Sevika x Haze. After all, they meet after Jinx's explosion destroys Sevika's arm, so that's when Sevika was in a highly vulnerable place shortly before. My point is not implying that an abortion is the same level of medical intervention as amputation or equal in consequences (because I definitely think abortion is liberation, I wouldn't necessarily claim the same about amputation).
Haze's fear of motherhood, and by extension pregnancy, ignites serious existential fear. It is treatable, so to speak, but still puts an enormous strain on her: losing control over her body, knowing something is in motion inside her body, leaving her exposed to the mercy of whoever carries out the abortion, where her autonomy lies in someone else's hands... Sevika is the one she leans on.
(Silco, meanwhile, makes it so much harder than it has to be.)
