I'm awake super early - thinking about ways to change the world... But in order to change the world, we need to change ourselves, and change our perspectives. Coral around the world is danger - they are actually made up of tiny little animals called polyps, and they ingest algae in order to survive. The ingestion of the algae gives them their colours - yellow, blue, pink, green, purple, red. When coral is under stress it realeses the algae and thus corals lose their colour and become white called bleaching, by losing algae they also begin to starve. So ultimately if not helped, they will end up dying. Day 9 of #MarchMeetTheMaker is Story behind the name. Honestly, I struggled coming up with a name. I tried so many combinations of things, but a lot of them were already taken. Then I started to think of words to describe what I was making. “Wild” because I wanted to make wild animals to showcase the world’s amazing biodiversity. “Whimsy” because my style is whimsical and I’ve just always loved the word. And I came up with “Woolies” as something I could call my creations and would also give an idea of what they were made of. I knew it was a bit long, but I like alliteration and thought it flowed nicely. It made me so happy the first time my nieces started referring to them as woolies, and then gradually, other people did as well. That’s when I really started to embrace the name I chose. This photo shows some of my past biodiversity themed shop updates - Canadian, Aquatic, Australian and South American. I haven’t done one this year yet, but I plan to!
