Apriltecture - Day 7 - Green/Eco

Super sore today from going to the bouldering gym, so my drawing was something a little easier to work with.

This is the Supertree Grove section of the Gardens By The Bay park in Singapore. The structures house lots of varieties of ferns and flowers and vines, but also use solar panels to power the lights in the park and collect rainwater to irrigate the gardens. They also are used to cool the gardens but I don’t super understand that part lol. I don’t know how green friendly the park actually is, but it’s super distinct.

Today’s music included Pissed Jeans’ song False Jessi Part 2 as well as Deformative by the Black Eyes. Noisy ass music today to get the blood bumping.

Apriltecture - Day 20 - Earthship

Such a difficult structure to get right. Has the fun of noticeable perspective work but the organic shapes of the architectural style make it difficult to get all right. And then I couldn’t add the holes in the gold section due to my microns not liking my staedtlers.

Earthship is an architectural style from 1970s that was meant to be built from sustainable and local materials, be self sufficient and off grid, and be able to be built by non-specialist. I think this specific one is in Taos New Mexico, where a lot of them are, but I couldn’t find out for sure.

Apriltecture - Day 30 - Industrial

Sorry for the delay again, blegh, but such is life. On the other hand, look! It’s the last piece for Apriltecture. My sister got me a scanner recently, so maybe I’ll try to scan all the pages. We shall see.

This is the American Can Lofts, an apartment complex in Northside Cincinnati (the Paris of America). Obviously built inside a defunct factory. The factory made the machines that make cans, but didn’t make cans itself. Closed in 1978, was occasionally rented out for small stuff and as a warehouse until 2005 when it was bought and then renovated and reopened in 2011 as an apartment complex (I find it rather simple).

Apriltecture - Day 14 - Mobile Home

I forgot to add the prompt and date to the drawing before taking the picture, but I didn’t want to get the markers ready again for the pic lol. Also I fucked up those stairs sooooo bad. But I had fun with the markers.

No idea where this actually is. Just found it on a website for selling mobile homes or “prefabricated homes” as I think it called them. I knew about these kinds of homes before, where they make them at a factory, put them in a trailer, and move them to their site, but I didn’t realize that’s what a mobile home was. I thought they were more like RVs, but I guess, those are called RVs lol. Should have been obvious in retrospect.

Apriltecture - Day 25 - Library

Wanted to do a speed draw today. Past couple days I’ve let stuff get out of my grasp, so trying to catch up on other stuff, so today was a quicker piece.

This is the library at Trinity College Dublin. This library holds the Book of Kells, which is an incredibly beautiful illuminated manuscript of the gospels. The college itself was built to strengthen the British colonization of Ireland, but I think its colonial history is more of a historical note these days. Also Oscar Wilde went there. So that’s cool and gay.

Since I was drawing a library from a religious college I started with “Here’s Your Future” by The Thermals. The song is part of a concept album where the US is overtaken by Christo-fascists. Thank the lord on high that that’s not relevant these days.

One day it’s gonna happen and I’m going to get sooooo drunk. You know, it.
