Inter-war period art deco meeting hall. Now converted to apartments with a significant extension going up. Newtown.

Also, greeted by the welcoming or not so welcoming committee. Many famous ppl emerged from the projects.

Former confectionery factory (1923). Only the original brick facade survives. Built for The Walcot Pty Ltd, specialising in medicated sweets and knocking out gear like “Larynoids Chest and Throat Pastilles”. Also produced 'name' sweets, such as Lifesavers, under licence. Became an electrical engineer's plant by the 1960's. Derelict by the 1990's. Factory now gone; facade acts as an entry to offices and a barrier wall to the apartments stacked in behind.  Annandale. Rear of a newish apartment development, with a couple of hold out inter-war period bungalows complete with upstairs extension and cabana, and a plastic, glass and aluminium container recycling centre. None of this will last, but looks like there's some roof garden going on at least. Canterbury.

Only the top half of the original brickwork facade survives on this inter-war period wool store after they dug the car park for the apartment conversion. Across the street from the enormous old Globe Worsted factory (1929) that employed more than 900 mainly female workers at its peak. All now warehouse apartments. Marrickville.

Former Methodist chapel (1892). Non-conformist style church building, saved from dereliction. Facade restored, a major extension out the back and converted to small über-lux apartments. There are no less than six foundation stones, all laid on the same day, scattered around the base of the thing. One of the very few buildings to be started or completed after the collapse of Sydney's first real estate boom in the Panic of 1890, which led to an almost decade long economic depression. Hard times. Glebe.

Evolution of a construction site. This series of photographs was taken from the same vantage point, as a new apartment development slowly grew from May 2019 to August 2020. Before these luxe brutalist apartments appeared, there was a ramshackle fruit & vegetable market, Lebanese bakery, florist and       grocery store on the site of a disused petrol station and motor garage, now excavated for the underground car park. 9km from the Sydney CBD. Population pressure. Dulwich Hill.  

The sad case of the Petersham Inn (1938). An Inner West art deco landmark. 92 apartments were built in 2001 on the pub's beer garden and car park, and now look very tired. The place briefly re-opened as a pub after the apartments were built, before being closed again for many years. Opened again about 18 months ago as a topless barmaid 'sports bar' and late night strip joint. Petersham.
