For example: in "War Mantle," I find myself wishing Zeb hadn't found the infiltrator droid at all, because that would have solved all their problems before they started, right? Wrong. Within a few minutes, we see that the Empire would have tracked the droid down - and therefore found Chopper Base - anyway. Even though Thrawn was able to use the droids' general locations to narrow down the location of the base despite the droid being destroyed, we also see that Zeb and AP5 and Chopper really did deal with the droid in the best possible way available to them - and being unaware of the problem wouldn't have helped.

Another example: in "Through Imperial Eyes," it would be easy to assume that Kallus might have gotten away with his scheme to put off suspicion if he hadn't tried so hard to implicate Lieutenant List. Alternatively, it would have been super easy for the writers to make Thrawn's skills of deduction almost supernatural - but also make it a stretch - by setting things up to where Thrawn hones in on Kallus simply because List being implicated was, as Yularen indicated, too easy of an answer. Instead, the writers make sure to include the tiny detail that Ezra's helmet had been left behind, with an art style that Thrawn recognized, which raised the question of why Kallus didn't reveal Ezra's capture... And THIS is what confirms Thrawn's suspicions of Kallus.
